account confusion
-
Hi,
I tried to create a gravatar account tied to my wordpress account and blog website (hosted via Namecheap) but I seem to have created a separate account by mistake. How can I merge the two, or sign up to gravatar using my blog account, please?
Thanks,
Naomi

Hi there,
A Gravatar account and a WordPress.com username account are the same thing.
But a Gravatar account and your admin account for your site at NameCheap are not the same thing – that admin account is something completely separate that only exists in your site’s database.
Here’s where it gets a bit tricky: to use Gravatar on your NameCheap site, you need a WordPress.com account (yes, I know this sounds confusing if the two aren’t linked in any way) because Gravatar will work anywhere you use the same email as your WordPress.com account. In other words, you create a WordPress.com/Gravatar account with a particular email, and upload a Gravatar image that gets associated with that email.
As long as you use the same email for your account at any other service that supports Gravatar, including the admin account for your Namecheap site, it will use the Gravatar image associated with that email. So even though the two accounts are not linked, the email address allows your image to be associated with both accounts.
I hope that clarifies things, but let me know if you have any other questions about this.
