Account difficulties

Hello, I have a complicated question that I need help with. I have this old website that used to be my church’s main website. However, I have now created a new website for my church. The old manager of this website forgot all of his passwords and any ability to reset said passwords because he lost access to his old email. the email used to be (email visible only to moderators and staff), but WordPress says that there is no longer an account linked to that email.
Bottom line, I need to shut down the shellybaptistchurch.wordpress.com because I have a new and updated website. Any help with that would be appreciated!

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

  • Hello –

Please have the old site manager reach out to us on this thread. We aren’t able to remove or close down sites unless the request comes from the account who owns the site.

I understand that y’all are facing some trouble with logging in to the correct account. There are some other account recovery options mentioned on this page: https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/

What we could do is help ya’ll make it so that the shellybaptistchurch.wordpress.com site automatically redirects to your new site so folks will see the new version.

That would be great! Let’s redirect the page to the current website. shelleybaptist.org
I will reach out to the current owner and get him into this thread. Thank you for your help!

I just thought of a problem with reaching out to the old manager. In order to post on this thread, he needs a WordPress account. However, the issue of him not being able to login is what is preventing us from shutting down the website. So, the current owner would be unable to post here.

I just reached out to the old manager and he does not remember the name of his old email or WordPress username. So, that is a deadend.

  • Hmmm. It wasn’t the email address you mentioned, but can you try this?

If all else fails, please reach out to passwordhelp@wordpress.com with any ways you can prove ownership of the site, preferably any of the items we mention here.

Side note: while I was investigating this, I noticed your username alludes to the address. You can update that here for privacy.

I have posted this on the blog!
The email address that I am currently using was supposed to be connected in some way to the old website. I received the email from another of the church members who had it stashed away in their records. I even have an old password that was supposed to give access. However, when inputted, it just says that there is no account with that email.
As far as the website it is currently under, I just created it so I could get in contact with tech support.

Understood, thanks! With regards to the email address that you’re currently using, if it was previously connected to the old website, do you happen to have any other emails from WordPress.com lurking in the inbox?

Our account recovery process (our guide for it is here: https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/#account-recovery-form ) lets you submit the original activation URL for an account – if you happen to still have that, you could use it with the account recovery form which is linked in the guide.
