Account email.

    Hello, I am the owner of both (email visible only to moderators and staff) and (email visible only to moderators and staff). I want to switch my email from the @sbcglobal.net and the Gmail address as my main address. I keep getting the ‘this email is already being used’ message. How can I fix this?

    hi,

    Let’s say you want to use your gmail as the main account and drop the @sbcglobal.net account.

    Sign in to WordPress.com with your @sbcglobal.net account.
    Transfer ownership of the sites to your gmail account.
    You can transfer ownership of a site to another WordPress.com account by following the steps in:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/

    Sign out of WordPress.com and sign in again with your gmail account.
    Confirm that the sites have been transferred.

    After the above,
    You can close your @sbcglobal.net account by following the instructions on this support page:

    Close Your Account

    Hi there,

    Your Gmail address is connected to another WordPress.com account. That account was closed about 12 hours ago, but it will be several weeks before the account’s data, including the connected email address, is deleted completely. You won’t be able to use that email for a different WordPress.com account before that happens.

    Please don’t advise people to transfer sites between accounts if they’re only asking how to change the email address on a particular account.

    The correct advice in this situation, were the other account not deleted already, would be to log into the other account, change the email address on that account to free up the desired email address, and then change it in this account. If you did a bit of searching in the forums you’ll find these steps explained in many threads.

    The OP also did not mention wanting to close their account. Account closure is a destructive and irreversible process, and we should not be pushing people to doing it if they aren’t asking how to do it. The same goes for deleting sites.
