Account Issue

  • Unknown's avatar

I have just set up a blog with a user info that keeps logging into an old free WordPress account each time I sign in. How can I fix this?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

What site/account are you trying to access? The only site in this account is https://enimeggison.wordpress.com/

If you want to access a site in a different account, you have to log out of this account and log back in using the other account’s username/email and password.

Is there a way that can be deactivated? I just set up enitemiblog.com thru SiteGround. Thanks

    Hello gmeggison,

    The site can be removed:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/

but it shouldn’t cause any conflict or issue, either way, if you go to enitemiblog.com/wp-admin you should get a login screen, it will say log in with WordPress.com credentials (ignore that option) and then right below that say
“Log in with username and password”
if you click on that, you should be able to log in with the new user info that you set up on SiteGround

If you want to use the WordPress.com login, then make sure you have the new site enitemiblog.com added to your WordPress account:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/create-a-blog/#adding-a-new-site-or-blog-to-an-existing-account

If the problem still persists, then as it is an issue with login into your self-hosted WordPress, I would try looking here:
    https://wordpress.org/support/

but even better, contact SiteGround, let them know you cannot log into the dashboard of your new WordPress, they can reset the credentials and verify and disable any plugin that may be causing an issue with login.
I hope that information helps you.

    Thanks for helping.

That option will only appear if the site has the Jetpack plugin installed and connected to a WordPress.com account, which is not the case here. Telling someone to ignore the log in with WordPress.com button is also not good advice – if that option is visible it means the site has Jetpack SSO active, which is a security feature limiting the ways someone can access the dashboard. If that’s active it means the site owner activated it, and we should rather educate them on how it works than tell them to ignore or bypass it.

    @kokkieh
    No problem,

http://enitemiblog.com/wp-admin has that option, so it is the case here,
but I wasn’t telling him to do anything that compromises his security, this isn’t a backdoor, this is the default way to login to a self-hosted WordPress and exist rather he uses it or not.

Jetpack SSO active, which is a security feature limiting the ways someone can access the dashboard

That would only be true if he had it set up so that the login page directed back to WordPress.com login, forcing the use of Jetpack SSO and possibly 2FA, which is not the case, as my method wouldn’t even work if it was done, so as of now Jetpack SSO is not limiting the ways one can access the dashboard, it is just providing an additional one that can be configured to be more secure, the limiting feature has to be done manually.

    Homepage

something like the code lines to Bypass Default Login Form and Disable Default Login Form would need to be in place and would probably be best security practice.

As gmeggison problem is login in and not security, and you work closer to Jetpack then I do, if you have some more information for me that I am not privy to, I am happy to learn, my e-mail is (email visible only to moderators and staff) so I don’t derail gmeggison initial issue further.

    Thank you,
