Account Pricing
-
Hi, I am looking at starting my own web design business. I am currently designing websites through a company that uses wordpress but has their own setup so doing it through a wordpress account is new to me. In my account can I design multiple websites? Also with the pricing plans that are on the website I assume this is for the hosting of each website, is this correct? I have seen that the plans all include SSL and varying levels of support and features so I should pick based on the type of website each time. Also I like to use the theme ‘divi’ I assume I can sign up and pay for this through elegant themes and then upload this to each site?
Thank you for your help. -
I really am confused with this as an ecommerce site can’t be £36 per site per month for hosting as 123reg is £7.49 for their highest package. I know that these include support and an SSL but surely that’s not per website per month. Is it different for web designers?

Hi @littlepeadesign, correct: each site would need its own plan, so you can choose the plan according to the site needs.
You will need our Business plan for each site that needs an outside theme or plugin, because outside plugins and themes add complexity to our support and maintenance.
https://wordpress.com/businessOur service includes SSL, direct WordPress support, maintenance, security, and many other features that tend to cost extra with other providers, but you are also welcome to use your own free copy of WordPress with another host, and use community resources or hired contractors as needed. http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you’re able to use built-in themes, Personal or Premium plans tend to work well for most sites that don’t need shops installed.
Does that help? If not, send more details and we’ll go from there.

Hi Supernovia
Thank you for the reply. At the moment I am working for a company that sell the SSL and hosting to the client at about £180 annually and it weirdly doesn’t seem to be any more for a shopping website but I will definitely double check this. I could maybe sell the hosting and ssl for £240 annually for a standard website but I think I’d struggle to sell it at £432 for an e-commerce site.
If I was to design a standard site for £600 I’d have to either charge the £240 or take a £60 hit (which I suppose I could put down as WordPress support costs on my own accounts).
Of course I am new to this, I have only been doing it for a few years and have been doing it through a company that has WordPress, hosting and ssl all set up on the system so I just have to design, choose the hosting and ssl packages and set the site live.
I have only ever used the divi theme by elegant themes, is that a built in theme or is that an outside theme?
Starting to wonder if I am ready for this next step! It’s so daunting when you’ve been taught a certain way to step out and try and go it alone! -
Thinking about it we do get charged a deployment fee of £60 per website I think so that would make sense for the £60 extra for standard websites and I’d have to just accept that charge. For the e-commerce sites I’d have to just charge a little more than £180 annually for the hosting and ssl, treat £60 again as a deployment fee and maybe just put the rest down to WordPress costs as every business has running costs for programmes etc.
The only problem may be for single page websites as having to use the divi theme if it’s not a built in theme I’d have to pay extra or play with a new built in theme and choose the personal or premium package.
Sorry for the mountain of info! -

That is a third-party theme, so you would need a paid Business or eCommerce plan to use it here: https://wordpress.com/support/themes/uploading-setting-up-custom-themes/
With that said, we do have hundreds of themes available, no paid plan required: https://wordpress.com/themes
The only problem may be for single page websites
For those, you might want to consider https://wordpress.com/theme/blank-canvas
This is a fully customizable free theme available to all sites.

Thank you macmanx this is very helpful. I shall research and get some pricing ideas together. Hopefully it will be something that I can get going and you’ll hear from me again!
