Account Recovery

In March of 2009 I opened and account when I was very ill from being poisoned. I have only updated the blog sporadically over the past 6 years owing to fact that I was so sick.
I updated some info to it back in 2012 and had zero problems, as I recall, accessing the account.
Today I tried password recovery and account recovery to no avail even though I submitted the activation email received from WP at my original email address. I do have a screen shot of that mail.
Not sure what to try next as I had to open an new account just to post this and could never get the conformation email sent to my old email account. I had to enter a new email to get even this far.
What do I do next to access my old pages and update my original blog DocRLH.wordpress.com?

Thanks for the responses. Somewhere along the line my original email addy was changed and I failed to write it down.
So, I went through all my accounts (like 10 plus) and found the most recent from WP. Once I knew that it was easy to reset pw and get back to original blog, DocRLH.wordpress.com and update it.
But I still have some doubts about how the activation key is supposed to work.
Now that I have a smart phone guess I’ll check out the 2-step verification as a backstop.
