Account recovery
-
I am an admin for a state-wide association. A few years ago, one of my predecessors helped one of our affiliated local associations by creating a WordPress site for them. They then took over the credentials of the site and ran it a few years. Apparently, they recently fired the person they had admining the site, who had changed the password from what it originally was, and they don’t know how to get into their site now. They are asking if we at the state level can help them. I have the original (now outdated) login information, and could probably provide the email of the person who originally set up the site as well. How can we go about recovering access to that site?

Hi there!
What’s the address of the site in question?
Please note that these forums are for WordPress.com hosted sites only. If your site is using the open-source WordPress.org software, we won’t be able to help you out and you’ll want to seek help at these forums:

Hi! The site is https://greenwoodrealtors.wordpress.com. It is a fairly simple site, but important to them. Thanks!

Hi @skyatdeq, if you have access to the email on the account, or if that person would forward an email along, that will do nicely. You can just reset the password.
Otherwise, here’s a guide to regaining access:

I do not have access to the current email on the account, because the local association changed it and they don’t know what it is either now that their employee is gone.
I have access to the email that originally created the site, as well as the original username and password. Shouldn’t it be possible to use this to verify ownership? If that doesn’t suffice, I have the contact information of the Vice President of the Greenwood Board itself, who can verify ownership, and who asked me to check into this on her behalf.
I have tried the account recovery form, approximately a month ago, but received no reply as of yet.
