Now they are transferring ownership of that site to me. I received an email from WordPress telling me I am the new owner. But, I can’t recall having registered for the WordPress service before. I tried to register, but it said my email and username were already taken. The transferred site is connected to a particular username as I understand, and I require access to it, along with my email.

Hi there,
You will need to log out of this account, and log into the account using that email addres and username instead.
If you don’t have the password for that account, insert either the email address or the username on the lost password form, and we’ll send you a password reset link to the email address for that account.
https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpasswordMake sure you are completely logged out of this account when you try this, or it will only bring you back to this account.
