Account Recovery (Deleted Account)
-
Hello there,
I would like to recover an account I opened back in 2013 and quickly closed.
I’m unable to recover my account because when I put in my old email or username the replies are ‘User does not exist’ or ‘Account Deleted’.I tried the Account Recovery Page but ran into some issues as well.
Because it was so long ago, I do not have a transaction ID or two factor authentication codes. But when I try to provide the ‘activation URL or key’ I get the following: Sorry but the website you gave does not exist on WordPress.com. Is it a self-hosted WordPress.org website?’ Not sure what that means because it’s been so long – I don’t even remember if I forwarded it to another site.I would like to recover the account and use it again, because that specific username is the same one I use for all my other websites and social media accounts so it would be so helpful to recover this account!
When I search the old account url, I get the following:
‘The address myoldusername.wordpress.com cannot be registered. Sorry, that site is reserved!’Thank you in advance.

When you close a WordPress.com account, it shuts down your username and it deletes all the sites associated with your WordPress.com account and all their contents. After a few weeks, this data is entirely purged from WordPress.com’s servers and the process cannot be reversed.
Additionally, while all data associated with an account is removed during a closure, the username is blocked from being registered again, in order to prevent impersonation. The matching site url to the username is also blocked from being reused.
I hope that clarifies things!
