Account Recovery – don't have proof of ownership.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi, I have an account I used for a high school class about 5-6 years ago and it was registered under a high school email which they delete after students graduate. I don’t have access to that email, or any of the “proof of ownership” in the Account Recovery which are: transaction ID (never bought anything), activation URL (don’t have access to the email), authentication code (never set it up). I cannot even send the account recovery submission because it needs one of these “proof of ownership” which I don’t have.

    My main concern is that the blog shows up in google search and I don’t want it to for privacy reasons. Is there an alternative way I can prove that it was my blog?

    Thank you, please PM me mods if you would need more information!!

    Hi there,

    I don’t think even wordpess.com staff can help you out. I’m tagging them

    I have added “modlook” tag for the staff assistance. You will get a reply soon from the staff.

    Hi

    @lostcoarse

    Without all the “proof of ownership” as mentioned in your question, it is not possible for the staffs to ascertain the ownership status of the site. There is no way to verify that the site belongs to the person who is claiming it.

    As mentioned by @neelgajjar, a WordPress.com staff can have a look and provide you with a suggestion. However, it may not be possible to proceed with the deletion of the website you are referring to (In the absence of the definite proof of ownership)

    Regards
    Deb

  • Hi there,

    What is the address of the site in question please? We cannot accurately advise you without knowing that.

    Hi @kokkieh

    Here is the site

    The topics in each post are from my english class and are my stories. I can prove that I have the name of the name listed on the website and that these are all my stories if needed.

    Kind Regards

  • To access that site you need to be logged in as the username, nenriquez2015

    We cannot accept any information appearing on a site, including your name, as proof that you own a site or account. We do not ask for your name when you create a WordPress.com site or account, so we have nothing to verify your name against, and you are also not the only person on earth with that specific name, so the name appearing on a site does not prove that any specific person owns the site.

    If you’re not able to provide the verification info required on our account recovery form, we won’t be able to help you in this case.

    @kokkieh

    Do you have access to which email that this account is connected to? I believe that it’s a high school email which is now closed of but I could be wrong.

  • I can see what email address is connected to the account yes. However, I cannot provide that to you under any circumstances – we require you to give us the email to prove you’re the owner of the account, on top of which telling you the email associated with any WordPress.com account would be a violation of our own privacy policy.

    @kokkieh

    I have an email that may be associated with the account, but I would like to tell it to you privately – is there a way to do this? I cannot use the Account Submission to send WordPress my email with the given circumstances I mentioned earlier of not having access to that closed email, never buying anything or setting up an authentication code. I can also prove that the email has been closed if needed.

  • I cannot confirm or deny whether any email you tell me is the correct one for the account.

    If you don’t have access to the correct email any more, and you don’t have any other form of verification, we cannot give you access to the account.

    @kokkieh

    At some point in the future, does wordpress take down sites for being inactive? Or at least take sites down from popping up in search engines?

  • While we reserve the right to change this in future, we do not currently remove sites for inactivity, nor do we change a site’s SEO settings without a direct request from the verified site owner.

    Alright, thank you for your time @kokkieh.

    Just my feedback since it seems like I can’t do anything about my situation, I hope that WordPress will update their terms in the future. I’m sure there are other people who have lost access to their emails and can’t retrieve WordPress’ needed information since not everyone purchases, or set up the code. I’m really disappointed because there are numerous ways to prove that I am the owner but I understand it won’t be as “efficient” as the current WordPress’ verification process.

    It’s a privacy issue from my end because I can’t do anything to remove my site and information from search engines. It is what it is though, hopefully there’s an update in the verification process in the future.
