Account Recovery form no website or blog URL
-
I am trying to recover my account (not this one) and my original e-mail domain is long gone. I didn’t create a WordPress.com blog with it. It’s only used for my gravatar and akismet, etc. But, the account recovery form requires me to enter “the URL of the specific blog”, and if I don’t it says “Please provide the username, registered email, or URL of the specific blog you are contacting us about.” I have provided the username, and tried using the registered email too. If I put something fake in the URL field, it says it can’t find that. I have access to other e-mails that exist in my gravatar.com account.

Hi there,
What is the username that you’re trying to recover? You’ll still have been sent an activation link when you originally created that account. If you no longer have access to the correct email, that’s the only way for you to verify that you own the username. If you’re unable to verify, we won’t be able to give you access to the account.

It is actually this username “justinfloresatx”. As you can see, I am actually logged into the account on a couple of browsers. But, I can not seem to change the e-mail address, or any of the security settings.
Unfortunately, I signed up in November 2012 and I just can not find the original activation e-mail. I have not made any purchases, and I don’t have any sites or blogs on WordPress.com. I am web developer and I always use self-hosted WordPress installs. I have this WordPress.com account because I have needed to sign up for services like Akismet and Gravatar.

When I try to add a site or blog now using this account, I get: “An active access token must be used create a new Site for the User.”

Hallelujah! never mind. I was able to determine my password and have now changed all of my security settings. Hopefully this post highlights an issue with the recovery system. An alternative method of verification should be provided somehow in cases where no purchases have been made or sites/blogs created, and no access to the original e-mail address.

Thanks for letting me know you managed to get things working.

Under your security settings you can set both a secondary email for password resets and a secondary phone number for 2FA codes.
