Account recovery, lost access from primary account

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello!

I posted an account recovery request from my other user account on https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/login-authenticator-reset-device-lost-app/

Sorry, unrelated issues caused me to not check back.
I am still logged into my account, on a browser, but cannot access settings due to losing the authenticator app.

I tried sending an account recovery request .
To prove ownership, I right clicked the button on the activation email received on 9th January and pasted it in (double checked multiple times) but the form will not accept that link, so I am posting here.

I enabled 2 factor authentication on this account with an authenticator app.
I reset my phone, and the authenticator backup did not work properly (though I backed everything up before reset). So I lost access to a lot of accounts, which I have been recovering.

I was still logged in on a browser, so was able to add another user to the blog.
I have p___y@____.com and z___t_____h@_____.com added as users on the blog.

I submitted a query on the forum at with z___t_____h@_____.com a couple of months ago at https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/login-authenticator-reset-device-lost-app/
Apologies again for not checking back due to unrelated issues.

I would like to be able to login with this email t_____4@____.com which was created to manage this blog, and as it is owner.

I have the phone numbers and email addresses, and still have access to the blog in a browser, but cannot access settings without the authenticator.

(I switched to a new authenticator, no longer Microsoft Authenticator.)

Could you help me remove authenticator settings for t____4@_____.com ? This time I will print the backup codes, as I have done for all the other accounts.

I can post the activation link received on 9th January (right clicked button, copied link). The form says it does not appear to be valid though, if that is OK.

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Could you confirm which site you need help with? We can probably point you in the right direction, but we need to know what account you’re trying to recover. Thanks!

    Hi!
Sorry, forgot to mention it: it is the blog https://cubictruth.wordpress.com/
    Thanks!

  • Hi there,

I’m not sure I understand. We show that as a site that is currently under your @xeniatech account. You should be able to access the admin areas of this site via this direct link: https://wordpress.com/home/cubictruth.wordpress.com/

To clarify, you are trying to access the account of another admin that also has access to this site? What is the username of the account you are trying to access? You can also share the full email address if you wish, our forums software will remove it from public view automatically, so that only staff can see it.

    Thanks for the additional info!

    Hello!

I am xeniatech, and after the authenticator fiasco I was luckily still logged in as owner, @thecriteron14 . I panicked as I realized I couldn’t access settings, and created this ( @xeniatech ) account as an admin, the highest authority I could get.

I would rather that my owner account @thecriterion14 regain access to settings. I can login from a browser where I was already logged in, but cannot access any settings without the authenticator (which is gone due to phone reset.)

I know, careless mistake. Next time I am writing down all backup codes.

    Hello @staff-totoro!

You are right, the owner is @thecriterion14 . I posted from my other (new admin) account @xeniatech as well.

As it stands, I have the following users on this blog:

    • owner account @thecriterion14 with email address (email visible only to moderators and staff)
where I created the blog 9th January (lost authenticator 2fa access to settings)
    • @xeniatech , new admin created in September, (after authenticator fiasco) with email (email visible only to moderators and staff)
    • @basgfogbg4 an author I created with email address (email visible only to moderators and staff) I think 27th August
    • @lilahyacinth , someone else who is an author, not as active
    • I can manage the blog, but I do want the owner account, this one, to regain access to settings and sort out that pesky authenticator situation, in case I need to do something that the @xeniatech account can’t do.

      Thanks!

I also have access with this account, but as author.

    Hi
    Just to clarify
This is the account I am trying to recover: owner account @thecriterion14 with email address (email visible only to moderators and staff)
    Thanks again!

  • Great, thanks for clarifying. We did send you an email to that address, please do check both inbox and possibly spam for it!

    Hello!
Thanks, I got the email, logged in and updated the 2FA settings.
Thank you for prompt and efficient help!
    Much appreciated!

  • Awesome, I’m glad you’re back in with 2FA!
