    Hello,
I believe my website is down because I did not update my credit card information when it expired. Is it possible to recover the content or repay what I owe to get it back up?

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Unknown

I think my site has been down for at least a few months, but I can’t be sure because I didn’t check it for a long time.

  • Hey there, I merged your threads. I actually don’t see any sites on your account here — could you share a link to your site so we can see if it’s under another account?

If it was with another hosting provider, I’d recommend reaching out to them about backups as soon as possible.

  • Also, just generally speaking, if your site is hosted with us:

    • Getting an expired domain back can potentially be tricky/expensive/impossible, depending on how long it’s been gone, so we’ll want to hustle on that. If your domain is not with us, please check in with the company you bought it from. The redemption process is pretty similar no matter the registrar.
    • On our services, upgraded sites will revert to a free status, so if your site is built with plugins or premium features, it’s important to get those restored to full function.
    • That said, unlike most hosts, we don’t delete sites for expired payment. If your site is hosted here, would still be there, just under a free address. That’s why I’m wondering whether you have another account, or whether it’s hosted elsewhere.

    Thanks for your help.

The website is http://www.somethingsarecool.com – I’m not 100% who I hosted through. I though it was siteground but someone else told me that if I had a wordpress “.com” site then wordpress hosted it.

  • Hi,

There are two things commonly called “WordPress”.

    1. WordPress the free open-source site building software from WordPress.org
    2. WordPress.com, a web host for sites using WordPress software.

The two are related, but completely separate entities. Please read this page for more info on how they are related:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

In short, having a _______.com URL for a site built with WordPress software does not make it a WordPress.com site. A WordPress.com site would need to be hosted here with us.

I’m not seeing any record that somethingsarecool.com was ever hosted here at WordPress.com. I suspect the Siteground suggestion is probably correct.
