Account Transfer

    Hi,
I was hired to help with a client’s website because they will no longer be using the current studio that is managing the site. The Studio created the site under their account and I want to set up an account under the client’s name, transfer it into the client’s account from the old studio and then add me with full access. What is the best way to set this up?

I started to create a new account under the client’s email and user name but it is asking for a domain but I don’t want to provide that because that should already be apart of the transfer from the Studio.

Any tips or how-to will be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi there,

Is the existing site on WordPress.com? If so what is the URL of the site so we can take a closer look.

If it is a WordPress site, you can transfer an exact copy of the existing site using our migration tool as explained here. It is automated and the easiest/most seamless way to move a site onto our hosting.

To do this will require our WordPress.com Business Plan, but what I would recommend is that you have the site owner create an account here, and purchase the upgrade under their account. https://wordpress.com/start/

They can simply enter the URL of their existing site in the site creation process (it does not have to be connected until you are ready) and purchase the Business plan.

Once they do that, they can invite you to be an “administrator” on the site using your own separate account by following the steps here.

As an administrator on the site you would have full access to do the work you need (without needing to involve yourself in the billing side of things) and would have access to 24/7 live chat support support, and we could walk you through migration at that time so you can perform that step on your client’s behalf.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
