Account Upgrade

    If I choose to upgrade my account and choose a new domain, what happens to my existing traffic. Would I lose the traffic? Can I let the WordPress.com free website to continue and copy all my posts to the new domain also? Will google classify my new site as plagiarised?

    Hi there,

    Actually it’s much simpler and easier than that. You can add a custom domain to your existing site and when you do we will automatically redirect all traffic from the old ‘WordPress.com’ URL to the new custom address, so no traffic is lost.

    We are not directly in control of Google, but they take about 4-6 weeks to update their index to reflect the new site address (and until then our redirect makes sure that no one gets lost if they find you via Google) and there is no penalty for changing your site address in this way. Google just adjusts to the new address, updates your site listings to reflect the new URL, and there is no penalty on their end for doing this.
