Account Username

  Hello. I recently got a WordPress free account, however I wanted to upgrade because I bought my own domain name. When I went to add my domain name and pay the upgrade fee, it said the payment was going to my free account and not my custom domain name. So I deleted my free account domain site, however it still said this was my primary account and again, when I tried to pay for my custom domain name – the payment was going towards my free url. SO my plan was to then just create a new account all together and instead of choosing a free account to start off with, I’d go straight to having a custom domain name. But it wouldn’t let me have the same username. So I went into my account and changed my username. Now I still can’t use that username. How can I get my old username back and use it with a new custom domain so I can get my website up and running?
