  Can not close ‘mcg1963.wordpress.com ‘ because of a ‘problem. I have cleared cache and tried another browser.

  No! No!
  I have a WordPress.org site (www.mcg1963.com) that uses that service! Therein lies the problem with discontinuing mcg1963.wordpress.com. I thought this latter site had been discontinued 4 years. There is only one page of info within. Now I find I have been paying for several associated services for the defunct site!! But the WP.org site is large, active and running well. I encountered the problem in trying to upgrade PHP to latest version. Please help! I do not want to discontinue Askimet. What can I do? Do I have to live with this??

  Akismet uses WordPress.com as its account system, so in order to continue to maintain your Akismet plan, you need to keep the WordPress.com account that owns the plan.

  You can, however, safely delete the WordPress.com site under your account: https://wordpress.com/support/delete-site/
