"Accurate" and complete stats, please!
-
Hello,
I have recently discovered that blog hits via “Syndicated views” do not count toward blog stats. This hurts stats greatly and vastly undermines their usefulness. For example, as this screen shot indicates (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/67514212/Screen%20Shot%202016-03-30%20at%2012.09.01%20PM.png) if “syndicated views” were included, my hits for that blog post would be about double. It’s helpful to have accurate counts of what is being read, when, how often, etc. Given that this information is already in WordPress, it shouldn’t be hard for the stats to be truly reflective of the blog stats. Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I agree! I want to know my real stats, and I don’t think that when I view my own page while logged in that those views should be included.

Hey pegodaaj, are you sure? My blog is very new, so I’m scrutinizing every stat. Well, first of all, it says that I have had 2 visitors and 8 total views today. I clicked on the views number and scrolled down to where it shows the authors who have viewed my blog. It shows me as viewing my blog 7 times. It even breaks up how many times I looked at each page.
I’m a bit confused because, first of all, I haven’t viewed my page at all today while logged in (not even at midnight or 11pm last night).
But you are saying that those 7 views that I supposedly looked at my page is not counted towards the 8 total views / 2 visitors that I’ve supposedly had today?
Thank you for your answers!

Indeed I’m sure. I have almost 250,000 hits (not counting the syndicated ones, as described above. It takes from 10 minutes to a few hours for stats to fully sync, especially at the beginning of a new day or when one person is visiting a number of pages in my experience. :)

The stats page for your site reflects the total number of view/visitors that actually visited your site, not accessed a particular article. Syndicated views are occurring through another platform (a feed reader of some sort). Since these users aren’t actually hitting your site, they aren’t counted towards the site stats.

Thank you for your reply.
Right. I’ve published 300+ articles on my blog in three years. I’d strongly suggest WordPress reconsider these policies related to stats for views via the website vs. via a reader. “Hits” or reads via a reader are just as important. These count count toward article reads and not visitors, perhaps. For regular writers, we rely on as detailed and accurate stats as possible.

We definitely appreciate the suggestion Andrew! Currently, we don’t have plans to merge the two, but I’ve definitely logged your feedback for future consideration.
