Achieivng Italics, bold, etc.
-
When I use italics, bold text, etc., it’s important for me to achieve proper emphasis and quotes, etc. When I publish it, it all flattens out to a dull sameness–losing all of my carefully executed text. My theme is Chronicle. Does this mean I have to upgrade? I’m already paying good money for this. If I must, I will. I want my text to appear the way I type it, otherwise it doesn’t make reading sense. Thanks for help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I am also having similar problems. My Theme is hemming way and I cannot justify my text and the spaces between the paragraphs disappear when I preview my site.
-
Yes. A serious problem is the Chronicle format eliminating my italics on auto, which destroys the effect (the meaning).
Italics are for quotes, and quotation marks alone are not enough in the way I use them. Is there anyone out there who can solve this problem? Is an upgrade necessary–an upgrade that doesn’t require learning a whole new technology? I can’t handle that and get on with what I want to do. Thanks. -
@tpnoni
Your issue is not the same issue as landmart’s and you are using a different theme. Click this and create your own thread please https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1 -
@andmart
Are you copying and pasting text into posts and pages?Or are you correctly using the appropriate icons in the Visual editor?

I’m already paying good money for this.
You have a free blog. You have free hosting. You are paying for a domain mapping upgrade and that’s what you have.
Is an upgrade necessary- …
No.
If you are copying and pasting from Microsoft Word please read on.
Go to Settings > Writings and enable
Formatting
__ WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically
“save changes”On March 24th, Staff introduced new features to WordPress.com and eliminated some old ones from the editor. They removed the “Paste as (Microsoft) Word” button from the Visual Editor toolbar in your post/page editor window. All we have now is the paste as plain text icon that we can use and it removes all formatting. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#pasting-text
After copying and pasting your need to use the correct icons in the Visual editor to create italics, bold text, quotes etc. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#row-1
Blog editors and word processors are not the same and do not work the same way. The web standard is one blank line only, so you cannot add more blank lines by pressing return repeatedly like you would do with a typewriter or in a word processing application. For formatting and spacing see > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/09/13/wordpress-formatting-and-spacing/
When you create a new post, always make sure the Format tool is set to Paragraph before you start typing. It’s in the Visual editor Row 2 first position “style”. See the illustration here http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#row-2 If you forget to do that then edit the post, highlight all in the Visual editor, select Paragraph from the Format tool, switch editor to Text then switch back to Visual and click Update.
Or use Windows Live Writer

Wow! So much help here. Floods my old brain. I have to take it a step at a time. My blog is: http://martinjryansamerica.com
Okay, timethief, I went to dashboard, users, settings, primary blogs, etc., and made the entry for the correct (above) blog. Thanks.
I went to one of my earlier posts and saw that italics was in place. Sorry for misleading. Yes, I have been copying and pasting from Word. Today, I tried pasting my latest post (with a lot of italics) and it all loaded up into the title bar, even though I had first entered the title into the bar, leaving the post box empty. Go figure. I will now try your
“settings, writing enable…” thanks again. -
I suggest that you start new posts only here > Dashboard > Posts > Add New http://martinjryansamerica.com/wp-admin/post-new.php

Thank you, thank you, I’ve got it done correctly. retreating to a rest home for the slow-on-the-uptake.
-
I’m glad you accomplished this. Maybe a spot of tea is all you need rather than a rest home. ;)
-
Thanks, timethief. Actually the “rest home” is where we live surrounded
by wildlife in the woods, and instead of tea I’ll have a glass of red wine with dinner, with which I’ll toast you for your help.
I’m sure I’ll be back soon whining for assistance. Bye. -
I’m back.
In regard to the HTML “view page source” on the home page of my Chronicle WordPress blog: http://MartinJRyansAmerica.Com
I’m comparing it to the HTML of my book’s website, which has under the <title>
at <meta name>= “description” CONTENT= I have entered quite a few tags to describe it.
Plus, at <meta name>=”keywords” CONTENT= I have entered as many, or more, keywords.
I would like to do the same with my WordPress blog to provide something for search engines to latch onto. May I do this? And how?
I notice when I review the view page source at my blog, I can click on it, but of course cannot enter anything.
As usual, thanks. -
