Action bar on top of Cubic's social menu

    Hi,

    Is there a way to either remove the action bar or change its position, without resorting to css?

    I’ve researched many ways, and I don’t even mind the action bar itself, so long as it’s not in the way of the social menu items – which it is. Pretty poor thinking on WP’s behalf. I’m using Cubic as a theme btw.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

    This is not ideal, no, but the action bar cannot have unique styling based on each theme, and moving the social menu on Cubic to compensate will break that theme’s design and has already been ruled out by our theme team.

    Cubic is also an older theme, and we’re no longer making themes with a social menu in that position.

    I see you have a Custom Design upgrade on that site, so you can use the following CSS to reposition the action bar:

    div#actionbar {
    bottom: 50px;
    }

    You can also look at our new Photo Blog theme, which was based on Cubic, but which has the social menu on the other side in the screen.

  • I also notice that the combined cost of your Custom Design, No Ads, and domain upgrades are $86. That is just $10 less than the Premium Plan which includes all your current upgrades, along with live chat support and access to all Premium Themes, including Photo Blog. So you might want to consider upgrading to the plan instead.

    Hi kokkieh,

    Thank you for your help. That means it’s basically a way to sort of “force” me to either upgrade my plan or spend money on a theme to work the way it was supposed to work from the beginning.
    It is not my fault that Cubic is an older themes and that WP is no longer making themes with the social menu on that position. In fact, if it’s no longer a supported theme because of its social menu location, then WP should either remove it from the theme gallery or find a way to let us reposition the action bar. Or both. Otherwise, it just means that WP themes are not future-proof?
    Anyway, I’ve been a customer for many years, and I do have other websites and, consequently, other expenses that my current working budget does not allow me to increase. So for now, the CSS solution will do and in the future, I’ll something else.

    Thank you again for your help and I’m sorry about my rant. But like I said: if it’s in the gallery, then it should work with WP’s current basic features, without me being forced to pay extra for it.

  • Thanks for the feedback, @lianesilva. We’ve noted it for you.

    As for Herman’s suggestion, though, we weren’t trying to force you to upgrade, as you already have custom design on that site. Just noting the jump to Premium isn’t that much more, and would give you more features.

    Take care for now.
