Activate email notifications being sent with every new post to subscribers
-
Greetings
Please may I get assistance with email notifications being sent with every new blog post to subscribers?
In General Settings, under “Reading”, there is an option to select whether subscribers should be sent the full text or just an excerpt of each new blog post. That setting has been configured. However, I found out that my subscribers have not received an email notification for my new post. They received an email notification verifying their subscription, but do not receive any notification when a new post is released. I dont know where to fix that and the Help Function hasnt been helpful with this.
Please help

I could be wrong, but from my site, the General > Reading settings are to set up “how” the emails will be sent…but, to configure the actual sending of the emails, I had to go to the following settings.
Jetpack > Dashboard > Settings (in the upper right) > Discussion (tab at the top of the page). Under that page, there’s a section there that mentions “Subscriptions.”Not sure, but maybe it’s a start.

One more thought. If you posted your content and brought it back to the draft state, it won’t send an email if you publish that post again. (I figured I’d mention that too since I experienced that when I was testing early on.)
-
Thank you very much for this response. I have just checked under Jetpack, and “Settings” isn’t there. All I see is a record of all the activity, or changes I’ve made, on my site.
I am on the free WordPress package, could this be the reason why I seemingly do not have access to it? Are you using a paid plan?
-
My main site is under the Business plan, but I I have a free site as well. I checked both and you’re correct that the “Settings” option only appears on my paid site.
I also went to publish a test post to see something…if you create a new post and just call it “test” (or something) and then click “Publish.” Another sidebar pop-up comes up, and there’s a Newsletter section in that confirmation pop-up that asks me if I want to Publish the post to “Everyone,” “Anyone Subscribed,” or “Paid Subscribers Only” (the paid subs option is blocked as it’s not available on my free site.)
Do you see that section in your confirmation pop-up (what option is selected for your posts)?
As long as you see that “Newsletter” section, I’d publish a test post if you select “everyone.” Then, check your spam folder for the email you’re expecting to see the email in…it may have been sent there?
-
Yes, I do have those sidebar options. Under Newsletter Visibility, the “Everyone” option was selected from the get go.
I have checked my spam and there are no email notifications there.

OK. I tested this on my free site, and it’s working as expected. I subscribed with a new email address I haven’t used before and went through and confirmed my email address with WordPress first. Then, I created a fake/test post and clicked “Publish.”
Before I clicked the second Publish confirmation, I clicked on the “Preview” button under the Newsletter section and tested that it would send an email saying “Draft” to the email address I have registered for my free site.
That email came through successfully first…is that email coming through for you (if you click Preview before clicking the final “Publish”)?
Then, I clicked the final confirmation “Publish” button (the second Publish), and I got an email successfully sent to me from my free site (delivered by WordPress).
It worked for me. Give it a try. Maybe test setting up a new subscriber (with an alternate email address you have) and try it again that way. (Shrug.)

Another potentially silly thought, but for the folks that subscribed and received the “Confirm your subscription” email from WordPress – are you certain they clicked the “Confirm Now” button in the email? If they didn’t do that, they’re not going to get the emails when you post until they click that button.

I sent a test email to the email address that my site is currently registered in using the preview function under Newsletter. The email came through. I then published the “test post” and it also came through.
I then subscribed as if I were someone else subscribing to my blog using a different email address. I confirmed my subscription. I published another “Test post” and there was no notification that came through to that email address. I checked if the new email address that I subscribed with has registered as a new subscriber on my site and the email address isnt there. I’m not sure what’s going on.

It also came to mind to check whether the subscribers actually clicked the “confirm your subscription” email. I asked and they said they did.
