Activation email missing and author cannot figure out how to update email

Another author is attempting to create a blog on WordPress, but her email activation was never received (she waited all night for it). And although she can LOGIN to her website, WordPress says it cannot recognize her email to resend the activation code. Okay, how in blue blazes can the system recognize her email to create the site and Dashboard login but it does not recognize the email used to create it in the first place? FYI, I’ve seen a screenshot and the email was input properly. And, no, it’s a not an email spam or firewall issue. That’s all been checked. The problem is with the WordPress activation process. Is there any way for her to DELETE the existing half-created site and start over? Is WordPress half-down for maintenance–or worse?
