active links somtimes go dead after I copy and paste, but sometimes they don’t!

Why is it that sometimes when I copy and paste an article that has hyperlinks in it, the hyperlinks are preserved and I don’t need to work on them to make them active, but other times, I copy and paste an article or an email that has hyperlinks, and after pasted into WordPress, all of the links are lost?
