Active Site with an Inactive Theme

Our website was designed by a third party. The site is active and working but I’m having some trouble with the mobile site and wanted to see if updated the theme would help. However, the theme isn’t activated. If I were to activate and update it, would I lose any information? What could change?

Of what site are you speaking? I see only one site in your account, https://ginnymclean.wordpress.com/, and that site hasn’t been updated since 2017.
If the mobile version of your site isn’t working, it points to a theme issue, yes, but the best people to advise you on how to proceed in that case would be the people who made the theme you’re using.
If you’re speaking of a WordPress site that was made using the open source WordPress.org software and hosted somewhere else, you can also ask here for advice:

Sorry I’m speaking of JaniceMcLean.com, should have specified. The website creator went out of business and does not respond to inquiries, that is why I’m trying to update it myself.
It appears they used the Impreza theme but never activated it? It says it’s version 4. something and should be updated to 7. something. The mobile site isn’t horrible but the background pictures on the pages “home” and “working with us” are so zoomed it in cuts the images off. Also bodies of text are slightly shifted so they are not centre. I will try the other support you’ve recommended, too.

So yes, your site is hosted with Dreamhost, not with WordPress.com.
Because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers.
