We wordpress.com bloggers do not have access to the template files underlying our themes on wordpress.COM hosted blogs and cannot edit them. This is a multiuser blogging platform. All blogs wearing the same theme use the same underlying template found on the live demo site for each theme.

Does Customize let me edit HTML?
No. Customize allows you to edit fonts, colors, and CSS only. You can change the appearance of a theme, but not its HTML markup or PHP code. If you require this functionality, please consider moving your blog to a web host that supports theme code modifications. You can read more about why here http://support.wordpress.com/code/, and find a suitable host here http://get.wp.com/hosting/.

I may not have access to html and css, but I can view both in Google developer tools, and I can see that you have class actnbr-hidden, but no hidden attribute (or display none). So it’s not working properly.

  • Unknown's avatar

What is the URL of the site please?

  • Unknown's avatar

thanks for your interest, but because I don’t have access to html, css for my site, there is no point to seeing what we can do, as you said, I would have to upgrade to solve this.

Better solution is for wordpress to fix their bug, don’t you think. Or at least tell me why class actnbr-hidden has no hidden attribute.

If you want to discuss this with Staff that can be easily arranged. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question I typed modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for you. Then we subscribe to this thread so we are notified when they respond. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

This ‘bug’ is new, only introduced yesterday or today. I think it might be on all sites, I tried changing themes a number of times and had the same problem.

I’ve also tried different devices, and asked other wordpress users, and this seems to be a systemic problem.

I’m not sure why there isn’t more buzz about this. Maybe wordpress users don’t “buzz”

Thanks for doing the modlook link.

Thanks for your report and you’re welcome. Please be patient while waiting for Staff to work their way forward through threads that were tagged for their help prior to this one being tagged. As would be expected, Staff serve the threads with the earliest datestamps first and work their way forward to the most recent ones.

I hope I can be patient.

As of this morning, my mail box is full of complaints from clients and students that I’ve helped set up on wordpress.com. I’ve decided to hold an emergency free class this weekend on how to migrate to ORG for those that don’t want to wait, and to help as many as I can migrate to org in the next few days.

They hate these ellipsis, particularly my paid WP users. My free users don’t seem to mind them.

    Thanks for your concern

  • Howdy!

In order to help you could you please share more details on what you are having trouble with as well as the URL of the site that’s affected?

Right now we do not have enough details to investigate, but as soon as we have the requested information we’ll be happy to take a closer look.

I teach website development using self-managed tools (blogger, tumblr, self-hosted wordpress). This summer was my first go at recommending WordPress.com. Most of my students were delighted with this product and bought a plan.

Starting yesterday, many URL’s are affected by what appears to be a “bug”. (or a change if you are doing some sort of AB testing, – FYI all the affected sites I know of are in Ontraio Canada.)

Actionbar ellipses (bottom right) show up on all sites for all users, but the problem is really only when visitors to these client sites are not WP users, and they see these ellipsis, they get confused and feel they are being tracked or hacked.

My clients are angry. They want it removed, so I’m migrting them to self-hosted rather than torture them while we wait and try to get it resolved.

I hope it is a bug, and you can fix it quickly, that would save me a lot of trouble.

I see in Chrome developer tools you appear to have a few classes for actnbr hidden, but none have visibility: hidden; attribute. So there is at least a chance it is a bug, and not some badly concieved feature.

I think you should be able to see these ellipsis on any site.

  • Thank you for those details.

This is a new feature as of a few weeks ago. We aren’t able to remove it at this time, but I have passed along your feedback to the team.

  • Unknown's avatar

You call it a feature? What exactly are the benefits of this “feature” to users not logged into WordPress.

Near as I can the options are visible to users not currently signed into WordPress are:

    Create Shortlink
    Manage Subscriptions
    Collapse / Expand this bar.

Is this simply a big awkward wordpress promotion? Possibly ok for free sites, like Weebly or Tumblr, but on paid sites? even on personal plan, Tacky.
