Actual blog different from preview

    Hi, when I work on my blog and preview, and when I visit my blog and I’m logged in to WordPress, it looks one way (as I want it to, with the theme).

    When I visit the blog from another phone, computer or whatever, the theme is totally gone, and the main image (I forget what it’s actually called). It’s just words on the page, and whatever images I added in the blocks. Then when I log in, it goes back to the theme.

    What’s going on? Are some free themes fake?

    But I can’t see the problem both when I am logged in and on any device where I have ever been logged in. I noticed the problem when I used my phone for the first time to see the blog. Then I checked with my husband’s. After I log in, the blog appears as it should, even after I log out.

    The blog is new, free and very simple.

  • Could you share two screenshots to illustrate what you see when you’re logged in and when you’re not?
    You can use an online tool for that (such as https://snipboard.io/) and paste the link into your reply.

    Are some free themes fake?

    On WordPress.com free plan, you can only use the themes from our library. They are developed and maintained by us, so no need to worry :).

    im so sorry but i just cant figure anything out.

    i have two screenshots (one from my android phone and one from my friends, because as i keep saying, once someone has logged on to wordpress the blog appears as it should, so i had to ask her to send me a screenshot.)

    but i cannot for the life of me figure out how to attach them to the forum reply- i dont see a way to attach anything, upload, cut and paste… i am feeling very frustrated at this point. Obviously i am not skilled at any of this, in fact i chose wordpress because it was supposed to be so user friendly, but i guess not for this user.

    ill see if my husband can figure out how to uplaod the shots

  • You can go to https://snipboard.io/ and drag and drop the image there. Once it’s uploaded, it will generate a link you can then share in your reply.

    You can also upload the image to your media library instead and let me know, I’ll be able to check it from there.

    These screenshots look to be from the mobile version of your site. Your site is currently using the WordPress default mobile view. Let’s help you change that to use your theme’s mobile view.

    First, log into your site admin and click on WP Admin on the lower left: https://d.pr/i/5WbBHI

    That will open WP Admin, from there scroll down and click on Appearance > Mobile on the lower left: https://d.pr/i/CYZpVu

    In the first option that appears at the top “Enable mobile theme” — select “No“: https://d.pr/i/p9J3eP

    Now, click the blue “Update” button to save this change. This will disable the WordPress default mobile view and enable your theme’s mobile view.

    View your site on mobile. You may need to click the reload button in your mobile browser, and it might take a few minutes.

    Once the change is made you should see your theme’s mobile view. Your theme’s mobile view will look different from the theme’s desktop view – this is important. It does this to make your site easier to read on smaller screens, for example.

    Oh my goodness, I had no idea that there was a DEFAULT mobile mode- I had seen the mobile mode on/off under admin but I just assumed it meant in the style I had chosen!

    When I preview I always select the mobile mode because the very few people who will be interested ONLY use their phones for anything online.

    I’ve done as you instructed, and thank you so much for the step by step instructions- I really need things spelled out! I have to wait until my friend checks from her phone again, then I’ll let you know.
