There is no reply to my comment of July 21st. I then tagged for modlook and today AGAIN it had disappeared. I have just reinserted the tag. Instead of removing my tag please remove the horrid orange star, or supply us with a hide button, or explain why it is absolutely and totally impossible for you to insert a hide button.

The banner will remain for now, we may revisit it, as well as the option to hide it, in the future.

I understand that this is not what you would like to hear but, as we have explained the banner will remain for now and it’s currently not possible to dismiss prompts to upgrade.
There is no reason to keep adding the tag

There is a world of difference between prompts to upgrade, (even one with obnoxious content as Guitar explained about this one,) which are unavoidable, and a hideous horrible piercing ugly giant orange star that hurts my eye and takes my mind off what I had intended to do.
The answer I would have liked to hear was not the removal of the banner but of the star, or at least the provision of a button to hide it. Also the answer I wanted to hear was why a tag was constantly removed with no answer given as to why such a button was absolutely impossible, without any reply until I started a new thread complaining about that.
You have made it obvious that you all know you are in the wrong but do not wish to admit it.
For my part I will simply have to steer clear of the stats page, change to a different start page, and look at the stats only once every few weeks when I feel I can take it. -
@halilac – It’s clear that you feel strongly on this topic, but repeatedly tagging this thread for additional Staff reply won’t change the reply they’ve already given you.

They did NOT give a reply to either question, and that is why I kept on, but never mind.When someone is in the wrong, which they showed by not answering my questions, only that of Guitar (which I admittedly supported) and won’t admit it, there is no point in arguing. In other matters I have always found staff very helpful, here they have twisted themselves round to avoid answering embarrassing questions.
If I ask you the temperature of the Sun, there is no point in answering simply that it goes round the earth (or vice-versa) once a day, unless you are out of embarrassment trying to hide your ignorance..

I asked a question. They answered it. I didn’t like the answer, but so it goes. The policy itself is above their pay grade. They can pass the feedback upward, but they don’t have the power to change the policy.
It’s time to let it go.

@halilac Staff were very clear in their answers here concerning the continued use of dashboard nudges by WordPresscom to sell upgrades to their users and advised that they’ve passed on the feedback given by you and others in this thread to the Marketing team. Beyond that, the Forum team cannot do more.
I’m both a user and a long-time volunteer here and I like to focus on practical solutions within the options available to us users.
Is it the color of the star or is it the upsell that upsets you?
If it’s the color, you can change that by changing your Dashboard color scheme at https://wordpress.com/me/account to something other than “Classic Blue” or “Sunset.”
If it’s the upsell, I suggested checking stats in your WP Admin dashboard.
