Ad problems

    I’ve been having trouble with my ads blocking my blog text. Several people have told me that sometimes they can’t even read my blog because ads are in the way. And today one of my friends texted me a picture of a gruesome ad on my latest post, something with a digestive system and worms crawling out. I understand that ads are necessary for the free version. I’m totally okay with ads–but not when they block my text and not when they’re disgusting. I’ve been a hard-core WordPress person since 2012, but this is about the end. If these issues are not fixed soon, I will be moving on to other website builders.

    Hi chellibops,

    Several people have told me that sometimes they can’t even read my blog because ads are in the way.

    I’ve checked rhapsodyind.wordpress.com but haven’t been able to see any ads that are making content unreadable. I do see a banner ad at the top of your site that travels down the page as a scroll but there is an option to hide it:

    If this isn’t what you are referring to, please make a screenshot and upload it to your Media Library so I can take a closer look.

    That doesn’t sound very pleasant! If you see the worm ad again, please use the Report this ad link underneath and this will send it to the ads team for review.

    The problem is that I’m never the one seeing these issues–even when I log out and enter my site as a guest. I’m going to just encourage my readers to report ads and see if that fixes anything.

    That’s a great approach if the Report This Ad button won’t work. Ask them for screen shots and inquire about which browser and version number they’re also using. That will help us track down any issues.

    Is it inappropriate to tag on here? I have a similar problem, and I believe any answers I find might help chellibops with her situation, as well.

    When I visit my blog without signing in there are obnoxious adverts like the ones chellibops reports. They do not cover any text; they just appear repeatedly in every post.

    I read the WP page about ads, which – as I understood it – basically said “We put ads at the top of the page, and we might scatter them throughout the text, so…. well, the ads you’re seeing might be ours or they might be from a virus or hacker.”

    That doesn’t really clear things up for me. There doesn’t appear to be any way to know which ads are from WP. Is there no identifier that tells me WordPress put this here? Am I forced to run an Ad-Ware scan on my computer?

    I apologize if I’m stepping on anyone’s toes with this post. I will gladly repost elsewhere if need be. However, I will be grateful for any clarification.
