Add a profile photo

  • Unknown's avatar

    Good evening

I would like to add a profile photo to my blog. I am able to choose and upload the photo, so that’s fine. But then Gravatar(?) asked me to rate it, and all the options are suspicious in my opinion… Actually, what rating option is safe? I don’t want my profile photo to be hi-jacked and used by anyone else… Or perhaps I have got it all wrong… If so, what is the purpose of rating and what rating should I choose if I want to be safe? It also says that my e-mail address will be linked with my profile photo and I get the question if I want to change the e-mail address. When my profile photo is visible at my posts, can other people view and use my e-mail to contact me?

I already have a Google account with a profile photo, I didn’t need Gravatar or something else to help upload that photo, so it seems a bit shady to me…

    Thank you

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

The ratings on a Gravatar image are so that if you use a risque image, we don’t show that on family friendly or kid-oriented sites. It doesn’t affect who else can use your images.

In Gravatar, each email address on your account can have a separate image associated with it. So that question is just confirming the email address for this particular image.

When you profile photo is on your post, other readers will be able to see it. If your email address is published publicly, they will also be able to see that.

Gravatar is a completely separate system from Google. Gravatar is a system of connecting a profile picture with an email address, so when you sign up for certain services, they’ll automatically have a profile picture to use for you.

    Hope this helps!

    See here please http://en.gravatar.com/support/activating-your-account/

The purpose of the rating is to sort out which gravatars one will choose to display on their blog. It has to do with family friendly images as opposed to those for adult viewers only.

    Maximum Rating
G — Suitable for all audiences
PG — Possibly offensive, usually for audiences 13 and above
R — Intended for adult audiences above 17
X — Even more mature than above

Note that gravatars/blavatars (favicons) do not show up instantly after uploading them. Gravatar images are cached and frequently take several days to display after a change.

    Dashboard → Settings → General

    Do not keep uploading!
Do not forget to select an image rating.

    @shawnajroberts
Sorry about the unintentional overlapping comment.

More information is always better, right? :D

    Thank you for your replies!

Aha, I see. So if I choose a photo which is family friendly, then I choose “Suitable for all audiences”? What a great idea to protect children from bad photos!

shawnajroberts: If your email address is published publicly, they will also be able to see that.

So if I do not want my email address to be visible to others, I can still use Gravatar but I need to change some settings to make my e-mailaddress invisible?

    Thank you

Gravatar by default won’t show your email address publicly, but you can confirm that your email address is not on your profile here:
