Add admin user

    Hello! I would like to add an additional admin user to this site. The links to help pages are either 404 or say I don’t have permission to view. Please help. Many thanks!

    Hi there!

    Have you tried accessing this https://wordpress.com/support/user-roles/ help doc?

    You should be able to invite other people on your site by:

    1. Clicking on Users in your dashboard.
    2. Click on the + Invite button.
    3. Enter the email address or WordPress.com username of the person you would like to invite.
    4. Select a role for this person (learn about each role in the next section.)
    5. Optional: Type a custom message that the person will receive in the invitation.
    6. Click the Send Invitation button. The person that you invited will shortly receive an invitation email.

    Thanks for replying so quickly!

    I don’t have a user tab in my dashboard, and when I use the link you provided, it told me I don’t have authorization to view the page.

    Another person who no longer works at my organization created the site as the main admin, which may be why I don’t have this permission. Are there any workarounds?

    You need to be the owner or Admin to add/change user roles. Best to reach out to the owner of the site and ask him to transfer ownership to your account if they are no longer involved and you will be working on the site in future.

    Hi there,

    I can confirm your account only has Editor permissions on the site.

    Only an existing admin can change your user role or add new users, and only the current owner of the site and its upgrades can transfer those to another admin on the site.

    So in this case you’ll need to contact that person and have them transfer everything over to whoever will manage the site going forward, or alternatively, hand access to their account itself over to someone else.
