  Could someone please tel me how to add advertising widgets to my Blog and also explain what is the difference between a blog and an article only new to all this.

  And therefore you can find no “Advertising” widgets here (or widget for that matter).

  If you are at wordpress.COM, then you cannot put adverts on your blog. Read the above comments.
