add audio?
-
when writing a post, there’s an option “add audio”, but the supported file types are “jpg, jpeg, png, gif, pdf, doc, ppt, odt, pptx, docx”. I don’t know all of those, but the ones I do are NOT audio. I have a 95 KB mp3 file that I wanted to upload….no go?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

sorry about that, but I’ve read and reread that. Check out my page and see if the audio player plays for you. I find it never gets past “buffering” in IE7 or Firefox. The mp3 clip is uploaded to a Google page (tho’ I have tried it on another page as well, same result), and I wrote it into the post as
[audio=http://sites.google.com/site/djeddieo/Home/Barkanntag.mp3?attredirects=0]If I put the URL in my browser window (IE7 or Firefox), it plays, but it won’t in the WordPress audio player. Any thoughts as to why?
PS: the other web location of the clip, http://www.bostondriver.org/Barkann-tag.mp3, plays in the browsers too.

Ah that’s a different question!
Re your original one: those are the supported file types when you haven’t bought the Space Upgrade. With the Space Upgrade you can also upload mp3s and videos.
Re your new one: you need to upload the mp3s in a host that provides direct URLs (linking to the file itself, not to a webpage). Try Fileden or Getdropbox.
-
Thanks for the host tips; I’m always looking for new and better ones. Unfortunately, neither of those sites has my audio player behaving any differently…still just buffering. And the URLs each of them gave me behave just as the two above did: pasted into the browser window they play (which has me thinking that the google site and the bostondriver site do indeed give direct linking, no?
-
That’s because you’ve copied the wrong URLs (I’m using Fileden, so I should know!). The very last thing in the proper URLs should be “mp3”. Go to your Fileden page again, click Files, right-click on file image, click “Properties”, click “URL”: that’s the URL you need. When you upload another file, make sure you click “direct URL” afterwards: that’s the URL you need.
-
thanks again; I appreciate how much effort you’re expending trying to help me with this! I assume you’re saying YOU’VE made that mistake of copying the wrong URL as well. I don’t know what I used for the fileden URL, since I keep updating and changing the one in the post, but the getdropbox URL I was using certainly didn’t end with “mp3”, as it was
https://dl-web.getdropbox.com/get/Barkann%20tag.mp3?w=021ae7abThat said, I just changed it to what fileden has as URL:
http://www.fileden.com/files/2009/6/15/2477750/Barkann%20tag.mp3, and that didn’t work either. Please check my site (http://djeddieo.wordpress.com/2009/06/13/zee-avi-cursive-and-the-podcasts-coming-really/) and see the audio player in the very top post, above the photo. Here’s what it looks like in “Edit Post”:Here’s a good example from my good friend Peter —hey Peter, whassup??—in Lake Tahoe: [audio=http://www.fileden.com/files/2009/6/15/2477750/Barkann%20tag.mp3]
Doesn’t get past “Buffering…” in Firefox or IE.

I had already checked the source code of your page and seen the Getdropbox URL, otherwise I wouldn’t have told you what I did.
When I saw the Fileden URL you pasted here, I said: aha – space in the name! The wp audio player is a bit finicky: doesn’t really like spaces or punctuation marks in the names. So I downloaded your mp3, renamed it, uploaded it to Fileden, inserted it in my test blog …and got the same endless buffering. Then I put the URL of another mp3 in its place, to check things, and it worked fine. So the only thing I can think of is that your mp3 is somehow corrupt: try creating a new one.
-
-
can you give me the new uncorrupted mp3 of mine? I’m sure it’s tiny enough to email: (email visible only to moderators and staff)
Thanks again for all your help; I’ll try to remember: no spaces or punctuation. How I’ll know if something’s corrupted is beyond me if it plays everywhere else!
-
also, how do I determine the correct URL from Getdropbox, if “Copy link location” or Properties gets me this:
-
It’s beyond me too. Anyway, the file I uploaded and succesfully inserted is this:
[audio src="http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/22/805638/BarkanntagNEWER.mp3" /]
Try it – but I won’t keep it permanently. What I did is convert your mp3 to a new mp3 via iTunes.
As for Getdropbox, I don’t really know: I had checked it and know it works, but I’m not using it now – sorry.
-
I do almost everything thru iTunes! how do I use it to convert the “corrupted” mp3 to a new one?
-
also, I saved your fixed mp3 and uploaded to fileden, so I don’t need you to save BarkanntagNEWER. Thanks again. I’d love to know how to fix/remake mp3s in iTunes, and will the audio player always say “Track 1” when it’s playing?

Here is a link to Panos’s information about the audio player:

yeah, I might educate someone! I’m just learning which end of the microphone to speak into!
