Add Copy Post function to Bulk Actions Drop Down
-
I have a client who is in the party promotion business. She uses wordpress to publish her next, upcoming, and past events. Many of her events are the same exact venue with the same post information with only the date changing. I would like to add a “Copy” post function to the “bulk actions” drop down in Edit Posts.
Does anyone know of a way that I could easily duplicate a post?
Thank you for your time,
Joe

We can’t tell without a link to her blog, starting with http. We ALWAYS need to see the blog in question.

I can not give the link to the blog yet. Her new blog is not live to the public at this time. She is running WordPress Version 2.7.1.

To put it a bit more helpfully, independently-hosted blogs such as the one in question are supported at http://wordpress.org/support
This forum is only for free blogs hosted at wordpress.com.

Which is why we ask for a link to the blog: we can tell at a glance if you’re wasting your time here.

Our friend might have been in the wrong place, but I’m not and I still think that his suggestion is a valid one. I’d go even further to suggest adding an “Archive” post(s) function that would allow me to save just the body portion of one or more posts to my local drive. Call me old-fashioned, but I’m uncomfortable with my creations being stored off somewhere in cyberspace.

I periodically export my blog. I should probably do so daily. I wish WordPress offered that as an automated function. –jim

@panaghiotisadam: Man do I feel dumb! You know with all the warnings about copying and pasting I guess I just assumed (Yeah, I know) that it would be a bad thing! Not to make myself sound even dumb-er, but could such a file be opened in a browser?

@jim, with the amount of redundancy that wordpress has in their systems, it is quite unlikely that anything you have posted will ever be lost on wordpress.COM. That isn’t to say it could not happen, but it would take a huge series of very strange coincidences and failures for everything to be lost.
If you do an export once a week, that should be more than adequate.

@izaakmak
G’evening
If use s free blog editor like windowslivewriter or BlogDesk to create posts and publish them to their blog then you will always have a backup of the post on your computer, and if you wish you can copy them to disc. I have done a post you may be interested in reading offline blog editors reviews
Happy blogging. -
@izaakmak: Copy-pasting is a problem if you paste from Word, mails or other code-rich sources to the visual post editor. There’s no problem if you paste in the html editor, or if you use simple text editors (e.g. Text Edit in Macs or Notepad in PCs).
A simple text file cannot be opened in a browser. But browsers have a Save function too!

@izaakmak
You’re welcome. Both wwindowslivewriter and BlogDesk are very easy to use. If you have a Mac then I recommend ecto because my buddy thesacredpath says so lol :D but you will have to purchase it for $19.95 http://illuminex.com/ecto/ -
I hate to admit it folks, but I’m a poor man using an old PIII kludge running Win98SE! My options are extremely limited! For now, I can afford only software and education that’s priced $FREE. :-D
