Add DNS record for marciwise.com
-
I’ve tried to add a Zone Record for the domain marciwise.com but it asked me to contact support. Could you please add the Zone Record for me?
**Okay, I think I’m royally confused…I have my own domain http://www.marciwise.com – but it has been hosted in the past by “Magix” – a German run company. I have cancelled my account with them and would like to make my wordpress account my new website – the one that comes up when people go to http://www.marciwise.com.
Apparently, Magix partnered with Network Solutions when I bought my domain name – so Network Solutions just sent me the “Name Registration and Authorization Code” information. However when I enter it into the verification field it says that it has to be a google app #. I see the the link to the google site but I’m not sure what to do with it. Can you help me please.
I love all the tools that WordPress has to work with but for some reason this whole domain thing is just over my head. Do I need a zone record because my initial company was located outside the US? Or do I need to somehow register my site with google? Or have I just lost my mind? ha!
Answers to these questions would be greatly appreciated. I’ll continue to try to figure it out until I hear back from you – hopefully without screwing things up further. Marci Wise

I have manually added a zone record for your domain.
You should now be able to map it here following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
I’m not sure about Network Solutions and Google Apps, but if you want Google Apps, you can set that up after mapping the domain: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/add-email/

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Sorry I’m so confused by this – but I’ve e-mailed Network Solutions asking them to change my name servers (which I believe was next on the list of things to do). Hopefully that will get me back on solid ground again – then I’ll tackle the google stuff. Thanks again!

Hello again,
I think I’m starting to see where I’ve gone wrong (and unfortunately it’s just about everywhere!) I don’t think I needed my zone record changed afterall (sorry about that!) Could you help me make it the U.S. again?
Just to recap: I already have a domain name (bought through a german hosted company) but now I would simply like to point it toward WordPress.com and host it myself. I live in the U.S. I have asked them to change my name servers to the WordPress ones. Am I finally doing this correctly?
The only thing that worries me a little bit is that I’ve lost “domains” in the dashboard “settings” options column. I’m hoping that will come back when they change the name servers. Are you following anything I’m saying? I think I’ve made a mistake somewhere that I’m attempting to fix on the back end.
Thanks for your help, macmanx. You’re the only real person I’ve been able to connect with and since you are the “Happiness Engineer” – I’m in desperate need of a little happiness right now. Please work your magic! :) Marci

You’ll actually still need the zone record to map it, since it’s from a non-US registrar.

Yes, that is correct: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
The only thing that worries me a little bit is that I’ve lost “domains” in the dashboard “settings” options column.
We took care of that a few days ago. It’s always been in two places, Store -> Domains and Settings -> Domains. To avoid confusion, it’s now only Store -> Domains.
Please let us know if you have any more questions!

Thank you. I’ll keep plugging away at it then and hope that it all comes together eventually! Have a great day!

Me again. Okay, here’s where I’m at now. I cancelled my service with my previous hosting company and received an authorization code to transfer my domain name to another hosting company. Can WordPress do that themselves or do I need to find a third party?
Then, am I correct to say that once I have someone to host for me, my next steps would be:
1. To get the hosting company’s DNS record to add to my WordPress domain information myself?
-AND-
2. get the new hosting company to change my nameservers to WordPress?
I’m sorry I’m being so dense about this but I think the terminology is confusing me. Am I transferring my domain, mapping my domain, do I need hosting, or am I just forwarding my domain? I’m not even sure what to ask for so that I can simply give someone my authorization code and get on with it!
My eventual outcome is simply that I would like my newly created WordPress website to come up whenever someone puts in http://www.marciwise.com
Thanks so much for your help and patience with me. I’m a bit embarrassed at how horribly I’ve handled this. Thank you so much! Marci
