Add Forum to new (free) WordPress site.

    Can anyone tell me if it is possible to add a forum to a free WordPress site?

    The forum will be on a private site, I do have a public site,

    gemmasponderings.wordpress.com

    I am told that plugins can lead to vulnerabilities, but the plugin, BBForums is developed by Automatic (who developed WordPress) and it is unlikely that they would develop insecure software.
