Add “Home” Link to Navigation Bar

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

    My blog is http://keithharingfoundationarchives.wordpress.com/

I am trying to add a “Home” link to my navigation bar that will link users back to the front page. I do not want to create a new static home page, I just want to link back to the front default “recent posts” page from an interior page.

Any ideas? I saw one suggestion that involved using a pluggin but I would prefer not to have to figure that out.

    Thank you kindly!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You won’t have to: plugins cannot be used on WordPress.COM.

That’s one snazzy-looking blog, by the way. My normal suggestion is to switch to a theme that has the tab built in, but I see you’ve done a lot of work on your current theme that you’d have to trash if you changed now.

    Try this instead:

http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/05/06/the-home-tab/ (read all the way to the bottom)

    and this:

    Thanks, raincoaster!

I actually did try your first recommendation of creating a new “Home” page and adding the hyperlink in the title box early on. Unfortunately, the space in “a href” is registered as part of the title and pushes everything to the right (throwing off the centered appearance of the navigation). Also, if a user accidentally presses a bit to the left of the word “Home”, they activate this forced space and actually click to the new (empty) “Home” page rather than the front default page, as desired.

I love this solution, but unfortunately it isn’t “perfect”. I failed to mention that I have the paid CSS upgrade… is this beneficial in any way?

Any further ideas would be most appreciated!

    Thank you!

@khf1, it only works cleanly with the themes listed in the left column of that blog post. The themes in the middle and right column do not work well with this trick.

    Hmmm yes I see.

So really there is no way to add a “Home” link to my navigation bar unless I use the trick from raincoaster, which will push my navigation text off-center and may link incorrectly, as noted above?

    Any other thoughts?

Again, thank you for the responses!

Change to one of the themes in the left hand column on the post referenced by raincoaster.

You can add a Home link in a text widget.

Unfortunately changing the theme isn’t an option. However, I have been researching this “text widget” option, and it seems that all the information I can find describes how to add a text widget to a sidebar, and not the navigation. I would like to add the “Home” link to the left of the “About” link in the red navigation bar on the top of my page: (http://keithharingfoundationarchives.wordpress.com/)

Is this possible with text widgets, or is it not that precise?

Again, thank you for all of your help through this learning process!

Text widgets won’t work that way, sorry. They’re sidebar-specific.
