Add Image, Video, Audio, etc buttons not working

  • Unknown's avatar

My Upload/Insert: Add Image, Video, Audio, etc buttons, while they do show as links, are not opening. I’ve tried logging out and back in; deleted my cookies, cache, and other personal data several times; and even a force reload but all to no avail. I’d like to be able to insert images easily again! Code gets tiresome… So any help would be very appreciated.

    What browser are you using?

  • Unknown's avatar

The latest Mozilla Firefox. I’ve been using it without a problem, until today.

Is it the new version that came out today, 3.0.10? If you are still on 3.0.9, then my suggestion is to get the new version since there were several fixes for bugs that were introduced in 3.0.9.

Also, when you go to the post or page editor, watch the bottom status bar in the browser and make sure that the page has completely loaded before trying to click on one of the image buttons. Also, try making sure that you put the cursor into the text area before trying to click the image buttons.

    I’ll check for an update.

And yeah, I did those. They’re like the “Step 1: Make sure computer is plugged in” for WordPress. :)

I got the update. (Strange, I have it set to check for updates. Do you happen to know how often Firefox checks?) And still the same problem. I did notice that when I click the link, it also places my cursor out of the text box. Not that that’s really indicative of anything…

Also, (since you seem decent with computers) do you know why clearing the cookies and cache generally solves the Visual/HTML Editor problem? I know it’s a great fix and everything, but no one seems to know why..

It checks whenever you start the browser – at least that seems to me how it works.

The clearing of the cache sometimes fixes things if there are corrupted files in the cache and your browser is trying to use them. It forces the browser to download all of the files new. The cookie clearing can sometimes clear things if it is corrupted. The cookie contains information about your level of access and such, and wordpress checks it regularly to make sure you have permission to do certain things. Again if it has somehow gotten corrupted it can keep you from being able to access certain functions.

On the insert media buttons, you might have to contact staff directly on that. I’m out of suggestions: http://support.wordpress.com/contact/ .

Thanks a lot though. I’ll probably just give it a few hours and go to bed. If it doesn’t work out in the morning, then I’ll call support.

Nice blog, by the way. Your picture quality is pretty excellent.

Thanks for the compliment, and you are welcome. I was noticing earlier that it was taking longer than normal for the image insert buttons to work on my test blog so it may actually be a server issue that will get sorted out in a few hours.

Oh, that would be even better. Thanks again for all the help!
