Yes. Copy & paste the URL of the image into the comment/reply.
Example on my blog:

That isn’t what I mean. I could not add a link to an image that is not online. I want to upload an image into a reply from my hard drive, like you can in Facebook.

That’s not possible.

I know it isn’t possible – yet. I was suggestiong that WordPress add that feature. I thought a suggestions belong in the ideas section. This would be a good feature to have.

The issue is related to posting porno and other spam. Imagine what it would be like if every spammer and flesh peddler could submit comments with images in them to our blogs. Oy vey!
As the Admin of a blog you can moderate your comments and invite your commenters to provide links to images hosted somewhere online, and then approve and display only the ones you choose to. You can do the same with comment embeds like YouTube videos and tweets from Twitter too https://en.support.wordpress.com/comments/embeds/

I think images and text can be treated the same way. It isn’t a problem posting and image along with text in a response on Facebook. Text and images are both digital data. On WordPress I can select who can comment. I can block, hide or approve text, and if there was an image included that would come or go with the post. I am not understaning your concern.

Upload it to a safe sharing site like Flickr or photobucket. The reason you can’t upload images directly to the comments on a blog here is that malware can be embedded in images, and it would enable people to hack your blog. So, if you want to put images in your comments, get a flickr or photobucket account and use the URL.

Mmm, ok, I don’t have Facebook. ;)

to raincoster. I am sure WordPress and Facebook are both able to screen images so we don’t get malwear worms or viruses from images posted to their sites. Scans are taken care of at the back end. Malicious imbedded content in images comes from other sources.
