Add Integral MailChimp Plugin

  • Unknown's avatar

Integral MailChimp is a new plugin developed via MailChimp’s integration fund that brings the power of MailChimp into WordPress. https://connect.mailchimp.com/integrations/integral-mailchimp-for-wordpress

I’m one of the developers of it and we’ve had WP.com customers asking about using it on their sites. Since the actual mail sending is taking place on MailChimp’s end sending to large lists requires only a single API call so virtually no impact on your servers.

If you have any questions feel free to ping me directly.

There is no FTP access and no blogger installed plugin capability on any free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and there is no upgrade you can purchase here that changes that reality.

Learn about the differences here. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

For a WordPress.COM blog we can create a sign up page on MailChimp directly and simply link to it. Here’s a link to the instructions we use http://kb.mailchimp.com/article/how-to-add-a-mailchimp-signup-form-to-your-wordpress-blog

Thanks for the quick response. I do understand the difference between WP.com and WP.org. The question came up when someone purchased the plugin and then realized they couldn’t use it on WP.com. What I was trying to find out is if there is a way to have it added to the list of available plugins that WP.com users can choose from. I’m guessing not, but figured it wouldn’t hurt to check.
    Cheers.

    Hi there,

What I was trying to find out is if there is a way to have it added to the list of available plugins that WP.com users can choose from.

I’m sorry, but there are no plans of adding a MailChimp Plugin to WordPress.com, but there have been some requests from other users as well. I have added your request as well.

    Hi Grace,
I appreciate you adding the request, just wanted to clarify, I’m not asking WP.com to add a MailChimp plugin, I’m offering that my team has developed one which it sounds like there is some demand for from your users — at least based on the response we’ve gotten. So I wanted to see what the process is for having our plugin considered by your team as something you would potentially include. I’m guessing this forum isn’t really the best way to go about that though. Could you point me in the correct direction?
    Thanks.

Plugins for WordPress.com would be worked on by developers on our staff. Take a look at our Work with us page if you are interested:

I’m afraid we’re not really communicating on this. I run a web shop that specializes in developing WordPress sites and plugins. Unless that suddenly shuts its doors I’m not in the market for a job!

On your site you have the following:

If there is a plugin that you feel is a must-have and would benefit users on WordPress.com, then please let us know in the ideas forum! Tell us what plugin you want, where it can be downloaded and most importantly, why you think it should be included on WordPress.com. All of the feedback is read, and we’re collecting the most numerous requests for implementation.

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/

So that’s what I’m doing — telling you about an existing plugin that some of your users have indicated they would like to use and which, I think, would be helpful to many as MailChimp is a hugely popular service.

Ok sounds good. We’ll forward this to our team for review.

    Hi Jamie,

Apologies for the back & forth here. Seems it wasn’t 100% clear from the get-go what you were asking for :)

Adding Mailchimp integration is something we’ve had requests for but at this time are not actively looking at. Additionally, we do not currently have an ecosystem in place for paid plugins on WordPress.com. If that ever changes, we’ll get in touch.

    Best,

If that ever changes, we’ll get in touch.

    oh, wow.

    @integraljamie

i would actually quite interested in learning more about this plug-in, for ecommerce reasons.

I was thinking of develop an ecommerce-specific retail theme for WordPress.com, but the staff response to your query does give me pause.

This sounds like you are being punked for biz reasons.

But I wonder if I could somehow integrate your plug-in with my proposed theme?

totally interested in any response from you and others re interest in a retail specific theme on wp.com with built-in mailchimp integration (in some may other than a plug-in)

    Hi @kerin2014,

While you technically could rewrite the plugin to be simply part of a theme it would still be the same underlying code base and would still be subject to review and approval by WP.com, which it sounds like they’re not inclined to do.

I took the time to check with them at the request of a customer but our focus is really on developing for self-hosted WP. WP.com is great for certain things but at the free level it’s not really a business platform — simply too limited in terms of third-party integrations and such.

Considering you can run a self-hosted WP site for less than $10 a month and have access to the full spectrum of plugins I’d honestly look at going that route with the theme idea you have in mind and then sell it via Theme Forest or one of the other platforms.

If you still want to chat feel free to ping me via our site, http://www.integralwp.com.

    Cheers.
