Add link/blog hop tool
-
Hi guys!
I’m experimenting with a sort of community noticeboard feature on my blog. I’ve seen on other sites where users can add their own links to a list which is embedded in a post. These sites are using the tool at http://new.inlinkz.com/
…so I’ve started off doing the same. A couple of problems:
1. Because I’m on wordpress.com which doesn’t allow scripts, I can’t have the list embedded in my post. Instead, it shows a link to an external list which is just not as sexy.
2. It’s not exactly 100% what I was after. I kind of want something which allows for a *bit* more text. This one seems to give thumbnails with very short captions (or just a short piece of text without the thumbnail). I’d like room for the full blog title plus up to one normal-sized sentence.
I’m not sure there’s a way to get around the first problem except suggest to wordpress that it would be really cool if they could develop a widget that does this!
In the meantime I’m wondering if anyone knows any alternative tools I could look into? Or any other workarounds people are using?
At the moment the best solution I can think of is linking to a google docs form to collect the info and then adding the responses to the post by hand?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Which you could possibly embed the resulting document in your site. http://en.support.wordpress.com/google-docs/
Also, a specialized contact form on your site would get you the same info, but wouldn’t produce a resulting doc. You’d find the info in your Feedback Dashboard.

Thanks Just Jennifer – I didn’t know you could do that. I’ll look into it. Just have to look into how it would present on site (i.e. would it look pretty enough).
Otherwise, an embedded contact form would probably be better than an external form.

Does this help? You can use inlinkz.

Yeah, that’s the one I’m already using. Just looking to see if there’s something a bit better suited. I think I’ll have to do it by hand, using a contact form.
