Add Media Button doesn't work
-
I have started a blog and have uploaded a photo library that contains 87 pictures. I’ve inserted 7 of those pictures into my draft post. Now, suddenly, the Add Media button has stopped working. Nothing happens when I click on it. Nothing at all.
I’ve used only about 8% of my 3 GB allowable space.
What can I do to fix this problem?

Are you running one of the browsers and versions of them found here?
http://browsehappy.com
Did you try clearing your browser cache and cookies? -
I am running Firefox, which is on the browsehappy list.
I cleared my browser cache per the instructions for clearing the cache; all cookies got cleared at the same time.
I’m still having the same problem: The Add Media button does not work.

Have you tried the whole nine yards? Ignore the first number below.
1. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
2. If you are using an IE browser in compatibility mode please disable that mode. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
3. If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/
(a) Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
If applicable see here for instructions on how to clear the cache for Chrome and Safari on the iPad:
http://browsers.about.com/od/howtousemobilebrowser1/ss/safari-ipad-clear-cache.htm
http://browsers.about.com/od/howtousemobilebrowser1/ss/How-To-Clear-Browsing-Data-In-Chrome-For-Ipad_6.htm(b) Make sure that you have both third-party cookies enabled and JavaScript enabled
http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654(c) Disable all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily.
(d) Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
Add both *.wordpress.com and *.wp.com to your list of trusted sites under the Security tab. Make sure to uncheck the box for “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.” http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/#frequently-asked-questions
4. Try using another browser.
5. If you are not successful let us know:
(a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
(b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://www.whatbrowser.org/
(c) And what any error reports you receive state. -
I’ve tried the whole nine yards, as best I could. Here are the results:
1. Ignored, per instruction.
2. Not using I.E.
3. (a) Done.
3. (b) Third cookies enabled. But, I’m unable to find anything about JavaScript on my computer. The instructions in your link do not match what I see on my screen, and no amount of poking around has shown me anything about JavaScript. I know I’ve seen it before, but I can’t find it now. I’m using Firefox 26.0.
3. (c) Disabled all add ons and extensions. Add Media button now works. Will re-activate add ons and extensions a few at a time to see which one(s) are causing the problem and report back.
3. (d) Unable to follow instructions for HTTPS because I cannot find the “Users-> Personal”, etc. buttons. Instructions seem to be out of date, or at least incomplete in that they don’t start at the beginning, either that, or I’ve gone blind.
4. No plans to try a different browser at this time.Tom
-
1. I re-activated all add-ons. Add Media button still works.
2. I re-activated Adblock Plus 2.4. Still works.
3. I re-activated NoScript 2.6.8.8. Still works.Nothing else to re-activate. Problem has gone away, but remains a mystery.
Still would like instructions for HTTPS. The previously-given instructions don’t get me there.

Hi there,
For HTTPS click this link http://thosbryant.wordpress.com/wp-admin/users.php?page=grofiles-user-settings and scroll down to
Browser Connection Always use HTTPS when visiting administration pages (Learn More) -
We had a temporary glitch with the add media button that affected a few users. That should be resolved now. Please let me know if you’re still experiencing problems with it.
-
Thanks for the link to the HTTPS setting. I got it done. But, finding it without the link, using the “Support” instructions is far from easy. Not intuitive at all. I got there, but methinks the instructions need to be improved a bit to tell an idiot like me how to get to the starting point.
Thanks very much to “timethief” for her advice. It’s most appreciated.
Looks as if the whole “Add Media” button not working thing was merely a temporary glitch. Sure cost me, and a whole bunch of others whom I consulted, a lot of time.
Now, while I have a “Happiness Engineer” at attention, let me say that just signing up for WordPress was *not* easy. Took me a couple of days to do it. Actually, I never was able to do it; my wife stumbled onto the solution to the problem. And there *is* a problem that needs to be addressed so that it won’t bite others in the butt.
You should take a look at this forum posting:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/why-cant-i-sign-up?replies=1
There is a very real problem there, and it needs fixing, and absolutely no one responded to my wife’s request, or my request, for help. And *that* reflects very poorly on your “support”.
Now, I know, basically, what that problem is, and I know what WordPress needs to do to *fix* that problem so that others can sign up without experiencing the same multiple rejections that I did over a period of several days. Just ask me, and I’ll tell you, but I want to make sure you’re listening first.

It looks like your previous post fell through the cracks. Given how many posts we get on a regular basis, it happens. Sorry about that.
Have you and your wife sorted out your account issues now? In reviewing your previous post, I’m not clear what you may have done to resolve it.
For what it’s worth, we just launched a new signup process a couple days ago and the whole point of it was to make signups easier. We had a few reports of things not working as intended, and our developers have been working on that.
If you’re still having issues, please let me know where you’re stuck and I’d be happy to lend a hand.

Crack falling is my specialty, so I understand. Thanks for responding.
As I indicated above, I didn’t say what we did to resolve the problem because I wanted to be sure someone was “listening” so that my efforts would not be wasted.
My wife and I were eventually able to sign up, but it wasn’t easy. Because we are now signed up, I was unable to sign up again to test your current signup process, so I can’t be quite sure that the problem still exists, but I think it probably does.
The basic problem was that your signup ‘bot didn’t like my password, but it failed to tell me that fact. It simply sat there and “stared” at me, giving the impression that I was signed up, but not actually completing the process, and not sending me a verification e-mail.
The password that I tried to use is of a type that is generally considered “strong” by most websites. It consisted of 8 characters, one upper case letter, 2 lower case letters, and some pretty-well randomized digits. As far as I could see, the password met all of your criteria, yet it was not accepted. Nor was I given any sort of message that it wasn’t accepted.
My wife, after several days of failed attempts, simply put in one of the most common passwords on the Internet, and that one was accepted. It consisted primarily of a zig-zag pattern on the keyboard, pretty easy for someone to guess; at least the letter portion of it would be easy for a monkey to input.
I went back, this morning (1/1/2014), to test your signup procedure to see if the problem still exists, but because of cookies (I suppose) on my computer, your website recognized me and would not allow me to go through the same signup process.
What I did try was to “Create Another Blog” from “My Blogs” page. I wasn’t all that successful with that, either, but I’m not really sure what happened, and I’m not sure if I was able to create another blog or not. If I did create one, I have thus far been unable to locate it.
If my “Testing Signup” blog exists, I have no real need for it, and I’d like to delete it, but I can’t do that because I can’t find it.
If it doesn’t exist, then I’d like to know why I was unable to create it.

Hi my friend has tried to sign up to WordPress, and she doesn’t receive confirmation email-although we’ve tried three times.
-
@ thosbryant, we have a check in place to make sure users choose reasonably good passwords (in other words, our system will not accept “password” for the password!). It sounds to me that for some reason the system didn’t properly provide a message when it rejected your first password (and why it may have rejected it isn’t something I can speak to directly). I’m glad to hear you were finally able to create your account, and I’ll look into the password issue to see if I can reproduce it.
It looks like you now have two blogs on your account:
thosbryant.wordpress.com
tombryantblog.wordpress.comThe second one appears to be a test blog. If you reply back to confirm, I can delete it for you, but I should note that if I do so, that address will not be available to use again. If you prefer, I can just set it to private so it can be used in the future if you choose.
You can view your blogs at http://wordpress.com/my-blogs/
@sheenabyrom, please post your issue in a new thread so that we can address it separately.

Thanks jackiedana.
My original password, as I said, was 8 characters, a mixture of upper and lower case, and numbers, and it seemed to meet all your published criteria. Other websites have considered it to be “strong”. I have no idea why it was (apparently) rejected, and I definitely did *not* get a message to the effect that it was rejected. Your website just sat there, silently staring at me, while giving all appearance of accepting me as a new client, but never sending me a confirmation e-mail.
The new password, however, is a joke. Any monkey could reproduce it by chance. Go figure.
Since writing my earlier post, I have found the second (test) blog. I have no idea why I wasn’t able to see it earlier. The tombryantblog.wordpress.com blog should be deleted. Please do so.
Thanks a lot.

I’ve deleted tombryantblog.wordpress.com for you.
Sorry for your trouble with the password, and you can change it again in the future if you’d like.
