Add Media button MIA

    The add media button is gone from the visual editor when making a New Post.

    Hi there,

    Which editor are you using to try and make a post? We have a couple of different editors, one which you get to by logging in to WordPress.com and then clicking on the Pencil icon in the upper right hand corner, and then another which you get to by going to your Dashboard and then Posts >> Add New.

    The former of the two did not have an Add Media button when it was first rolled out a few weeks ago, but it has one now as long as your browser is up-to-date (you can make sure you have the most recent browser by going here:

    http://browsehappy.com/

    You might also want to check a different browser to see if it’s not appearing there too.

    If it’s definitely not showing up, I’d love some additional information, such as which browser you’re using, which editor you’re visiting, and if the add media button was there when you first loaded the screen but disappeared after you did anything. A screenshot would be excellent too!

    Here’s some information on how to take a screenshot if you’re not familiar. You can just upload the screenshot to your Media Library via Dashboard >> Media Library >> Add New and let me know it’s there.

    Thanks for your response.

    I loaded a screenshot in my media library. The Add Media button is gone from above the text field.

    I’m using Google Chrome Version 36.0.1985.125 m, which should be up to date. I’m getting the same screen regardless of which editor I choose. I’ve also tried logging in through Safari and on a few other computers with no luck.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Paul,

    Thanks for those details! You’ve run into a somewhat obscure bug — I reported that to our developers so they can take a look.

    In the meantime, this should fix it for you:

    1. Head over to your account settings here: https://wordpress.com/settings/account/
    2. Next to Primary Blog select your blog paulstepahin.wordpress.com
    3. Save the changes on that page.

    Then, try creating a new post and see if that Add Media button shows up for you. If you still have trouble with it, please let me know!
