Add media button missing for 'author' and 'contributor'
-
Hi. We are starting to add users with different roles (mostly ‘contributors’ and ‘authors’) to our blog. However, when users sign into their individual accounts the ‘add media’ button is missing when they want to post to our blog. ‘Editors’ and higher can ‘add media’, however. This is a problem because ‘editors’ also have the capacity to delete posts which is not what we want our users to be able to do.
Are we missing something or are we forced to choose between allowing users to delete posts or not be able to add media to their posts?
Please advise and thank you.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What’s with the “we” here. There’s is supposed to be only one Admin per blog. Provided you are logged in under the username account that registered the blog and owns it, and who is the Admin of the blog then you ought to be able to add users by following this guide.

Working through othwers is nor recommended. Have your authors and contributors post here please.
How are these contributors and authors connecting to the internet and to WordPress.com?
If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
If you are, please do these:
(1) Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
Note: If you are using an IE9 browser in compatibility mode that makes it render as IE7 and IE7 is not supported. To disable see > http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html(2) Make sure that you have third-party cookies enabled and JavaScript enabled

(3) Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
(4) Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
If you are not successful let us know exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://www.whatbrowser.org/ and also post any error reports you get.

To answer your question:
a) Contributors cannot upload images but authors can.
b) Authors can delete their own posts only. -

@timethief: I am the ADMIN. When I say ‘we’ I mean the blog belongs to the company. There is only one admin. As for your second response I am not working through others. The test is simple. I am admin on the company blog and I also have my own personal WP account. When I add my personal account as an ‘author’ I do not see the ‘Add Media’ button. When I change the role to ‘Editor’ I do. Which is not good. I don;t want to give users ‘Editor’ role.
My question remains, when ‘we’ (me) add users to contribute to the blog, those who have author and contributor roles do NOT have an ‘add media’ button when they want to post. However, *they* do if they have ‘editor’ role and above. Obviously we don’t want to give them editor roles. Please let me know if you need more information.
Thanks.

UPDATE: For whatever, reason, today the ‘author’ roles now do show the ‘Add Media’ button. So for now the problem seems to have gone away. Thanks for the info.

UPDATE II: OK, now that the ‘add media’ question button has been resolved a related issue has come up. I see now that users with Author role can post without being moderated. Is there a way to moderate AUTHOR roles? (I cannot set their roles to ‘contributor’ since then the ‘add media’ button disappears.).
Thanks!
