add media in the new edit code feature
-
I prefer to edit my code on my pages using the code editor (HTML) view. However, now when I select that option, the add media button is greyed out and I cannot add media. Is there a way to resolve this?

Hi there,
What is the URL of the site you’re working on?
The Add Media button in the HTML view of the classic editor is working fine on my end, so this might be an issue with your browser. Please see if clearing the browser cache or using a different browser makes any difference.

I cleared my cache and cookies to no avail. Similarly, I tried another browser (Safari, rather than Chrome) and the problem still persisted. The main site URL is drjasonfriedman.wordpress.com. When I go to edit one page on that site, e.g. at this address (https://wordpress.com/block-editor/page/drjasonfriedman.wordpress.com/2030), the blue box in the top left for add media is greyed out while I am in code edit mode. I uploaded a screen capture of what that page looks like (https://drjasonfriedman.files.wordpress.com/2020/08/screen-shot-2020-08-22-at-3.15.27-pm.png). I understand that I can edit the code from the edit page feature from the admin site and in that mode, I can add media while in HTML code edit mode. While this workaround is nice, I would hope to be able to use the regular (updated) code editor too.

So you’re using the block editor, not the classic editor. That button is not an Add Media button. That’s an Add Block button, and it’s supposed to be disabled if you’re in the code editor view of the block editor.
The Add Media button you’re looking for only exists in the classic WordPress editor. That editor can only be accessed from WP-Admin, at https://drjasonfriedman.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php

That makes perfect sense. If I understand your comment correctly, in the code edit feature of the block editor, there is no way to add media directly?
