Add Media/Insert Media/Upload Files/Select files alway calls up the same wrong w

  • Unknown's avatar

Every time I use Add Media/Insert Media/Upload Files/Select files I get the wrong Windows Explorer page: one that I used weeks ago and not since. I have to close that page before I can select the page I actually want.
If I amend that wrong Windows Explorer page to the one I want, I can download the correct file. However, when I click back on the “Insert Media” page, the Windows Explorer page does not disappear. It remains, with its header bar transparent.
How can I get rid of this unwanted page?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Do you also encounter this issue in a different browser? for example Firefox or Internet Explorer?

    Looking forward to your reply.

I tried “Internet Explorer” which I do not normally use. (I use Google Chrome.)
The delinquent window did not appear. The Windows Explorer window that appeared was “Libraries/Documents”. From that, I was able to select “Pictures” from the left-side menu, and I was OK. The Windows Explorer window was labelled in its header, after an IE logo, “Choose file to upload”.

If possible, send me a screenshot, so I can better understand the issue. You can simply upload the screenshot to your Media Library, like any other image, and I’ll be able to access it from there. Or send it to us by e-mail to this address.

The page at the following link has some helpful tips for taking screenshots:

    Take a Screenshot

    Hi, Tim
Screenshots of my image upload glitch.
I have uploaded to my media library screenshots labelled SnGlitch1, SnGlitch2, and SnGlitch3.
    First shot: Insert Media page.
Second shot: Wrong Windows Explorer window appears when I click “Select Files”.
Third shot: I have closed the wrong window and clicked the Windows Explorer icon. This shot now includes the correct WE page, but I had to search for it. (This time it has hidden behind it the WE page that I have open to save these screen shots. That was what came up first when I hit the WE icon.)
I think what the program does, when working correctly, is automatically open the most recently opened WE page. This is very convenient, because the images I want are on the same WE page as the text that I am copying for the blog post.

Would you be so kind as to advise me on how to find these support threads that I subscribe to, please? The word “Support” on this site leads into a labyrinth!

“simply upload the screenshot to your Media Library”
I am using a Snipping tool to do this.
But the result cannot be simply uploaded, because it is a bitmap file. I found that I had to “Export” it to convert it to a PNG file.

I see different paths in the address bar of the file explorer. What happens when you click on Libraries -> Documents again on the left hand side?

If I click on Libraries Documents, I still have about eight clicks to go to get to my image.
The page that is open was the one I used to upload my header photo just one month ago today. It has been stuck there ever since. In that time I have uploaded over a hundred images from files with pathways like:
Documents/A Science/A Meteorology/A Local Climate/Weatherzone/ParamPlots/(year)/(image files and text documents referenced to the calendar month)

Your file explorer might have a specific startup folder set. Follow the instructions in this guide on how to adjust it: http://www.howtogeek.com/140437/change-the-default-file-explorer-startup-folder-in-windows-8/

    Thanks, Tim
As the article you linked to says, my Windows Explorer in Windows 7 defaults to “Libraries” when I click the icon. I am happy with that as a default, and I do not wish to change it, thanks.
In particular, I do not wish to change the default that is in effect while I am editing my blog.
What I am doing is this: Before or after I open an edit page, I click on the Windows Explorer icon, and find the explorer page that has the text and image files that I intend to use. I open the text file I need in Notepad, and paste some of it into the blog. When I need an image, and I have clicked “Select File”, (*) I can then click on the Windows Explorer icon, which re-opens on the correct page and I can drag and drop the image file into the blog image library.
But, where I have put (*) above, a rogue page from Windows Explorer, that I have not used in a month, appears of its own accord, and I have to close it before I continue with the image download.

After a hundred image uploads, I’m am getting used to it, but it would be nice to get rid of the problem.

Interesting issue. However, since it’s happening on the Operating System side, I don’t think it’s caused by WordPress.com. You might want to try to reproduce the issue from a different computer to see if you encounter the same there.

We’ll keep an eye open for similar reports on your issue.

    Thank you!
