'Add New Theme' is missing from the Appearance –> Themes Page

  I’m trying to upload a new theme for my blog however the ‘Add New’ button is missing from my Appearance –> Themes menu. I’ve been trying some stuff but I’ve kind of hit a road block here. Any ideas?

  At WordPress.com, you have access to the themes in the theme showcase – https://wordpress.com/themes/

  To activate a theme, go to My Sites → Themes in any WordPress.com site’s dashboard or the Theme Showcase. Click on the three dots to the right of the theme’s name and then click on Activate.

  The themes you see available elsewhere are for the WordPress.org version of WordPress. To understand the difference see https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  I’m afraid you don’t understand. I’m trying to UPLOAD a theme that I’ve purchased, however the when I go to Appearance –> Themes the instructions indicate that there should be an “Add New” and “Upload Theme” option but there isn’t one.

  Hey there,

  It sounds like you are trying to install a third party theme for a self-hosted WordPress.ORG blog. Third party themes can not be uploaded to a free hosted WordPress.COM blog. They are for WordPress.ORG installs which run on different software.

  WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

  The good news is that WordPress.COM has hundreds of available themes as @houstonweaver mentioned that you can activate (many for free), and they are found under Appearance > Themes
