Add new user?

I am trying to add a new user to my wordpress site but it looks like the only way to do that is via an invite.

The issue with that is that the invite messages are being blocked by my organization.

Can I add a user any other way? The Google searches I am doing have mentioned a way but I don’t see the same options as the examples.

    I am the site owner.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • At this time, we can only offer it via invite, this is because we must confirm the email address being added.

How does the organization block invites? Are you saying that the email messages are blocked or intercepted?

We are federal government agency and our email security is cranked up. I get messages from WordPress as the site owner but the invite messages must be in a format that our security filters do not like. They are not making to the end users.

Would this work? The user gets the invite to a personal account like gmail to confirm the invite. Once they have access to the system they change their email account to their .gov one. Does the system need to reconfirm the new email address by sending out an email or will it just let them change it?

  • Any email change on an account will also need to be confirmed.

But I want to think if someone receives an invite at address A, they should be able to accept the invite and then create an account with address B instead, so you can try that.

However, if your .gov email filters are that strict, I wouldn’t recommend using those emails at all for your accounts. Your account email address is the only piece of personal and verifiable information we collect when you create an account, and for things like account access issues and support we only communicate with the email address on file for an account. So if you’re not able to receive emails from WordPress.com at a particular address, we might not be able to help you with site or account issues when you need it.

It only seems to the however the invite emails are formatted that gets them caught. I am, for instance, getting the email notification at my .gov address that this forum is being updated. That email is just straight text with a link.

  • @nsfwpadmin thanks for that.

Here’s what I would recommend the user do:

    – Change the email address to something less filtered (gmail or whatever)

    – Site owner re-sends the invitation

    – User accepts the invite

    – User updates their email address

If they do not get the confirmation email for updating the email address, have them reply to this thread and we’ll reach out to confirm it ourselves.

Want to give that a go?

Yes. I will have them reach out. Thank you.

  • Thank you! We’ll keep an eye on this thread, so just have them respond here if they need help.

This is Rob Margetta from the National Science Foundation. I am trying to change the user email for the username nationalsciencefoundation from (email visible only to moderators and staff) to (email visible only to moderators and staff) and the confirmation email is not coming through. Could you please make this change?

This is going to need to be done on all three of the blogs attached to my admin account: nsfwpadmin. nsffieldnotes, fromtumblr and nsfgov. Thank you.

  • I’m thinking this might be better handled by private email actually. I’ll reach out to each of you.

    Talk to you soon.

  • Noting I’ve sent you both emails at the preferred email addresses. If you did not receive those either, please let us know.
