Add Social Media Follow Buttons
-
Hi there! I have for some days now tried to figure out how i can add follow buttons to my self hosted WordPress website. The share buttons I figured out using AddThis, which I think looks good. The follow buttons however is a more tricky business… Many solutions demands that i add code to my pages – but here’s the thing: i cant access that code! Some people are talking about an ‘editor’ function under Apperance – I don’t have that function. If anybody can point me in the right direction, I’d be grateful! Thanks.

Hey lolerche,
These forums are for the websites hosted on WordPress.com. For a self-hosted WordPress website, you can use WordPress.com forums.

To do so, you need to create an account on WordPress.org.

Hi there,
To add a Follow button to a self-hosted WordPress site, you need to make use of some kind of subscription service that will actually notify people when a new post is published. This is not something that comes built into the WordPress software – all that’s built in is an RSS feed that someone can follow by manually pasting it into an RSS reader of their choice.
A good solution for email subscriptions is the Jetpack plugin – that will allow people to sign up for email notifications to your site via a widget you can add to one of your theme’s widget areas, and works via a connection to a WordPress.com account.
Jetpack adds several other useful features as well, including sharing buttons, stats, site security and backups, contact forms, etc.
If your site is connected by Jetpack you can then also add a button to allow people to follow your site via their WordPress.com accounts, rather than via email if they prefer.

@deepakkumarans
In future, please create your own thread rather than posting into a thread created by someone else.
The sharing buttons on that site is added via a plugin. I’m not able to see from the source code what plugin that is, but it’s not possible to use a feature like that on WordPress.com unless you have the Business Plan.
