Add text widgets

I launched my WordPress blog yesterday. Today I tried to follow the instructions to add an RSS icon and an e-mail subscription message in text widgets by cutting and pasting html code into the text widget. Everything works fine except that the sidebar information (About, Blogroll, Meta, etc.) all goes away and is replaced by the widgets. I want the widgets to ADD to what is on the sidebar – not displace all that is already on the sidebar. Please advise.

When you first start a blog, and before you add any widgets, what you will see is just a sample representation of what the blog will look like with widgets in the sidebar. There aren’t actually any widgets IN the sidebar.

Once you add a widget to the sidebar, the sample representation will no longer be displayed. All you have to do though is add in the widgets that you wish to be in the sidebar and arrange them as you want. Make sure and click the ‘save changes’ button when done.

  • All of the widgets that previously existed are easy to add right back from Design -> Widgets, so don’t worry.

Worked just as you described. Thank you very much!
