Add Theme button is not there

  I am trying to add a theme to my wordpress, but it is not giving me the option to do so. The add button is not there. Is there a specific reason for this?

  Hi @aoave,

  On WordPress.com you can’t have more than one theme in use. That means that on Dashboard>Appearance>Themes you can see as the first entry the theme you’ve got in use now, and the rest of the themes listed are ‘ready’ to be tested and activated.

  So instead of the ‘Add’ button, you have the ‘Activate’ button. When you activate a theme, it replaces the one you were using.

  I’m not sure if I answered your question, so please let me know if you have any other doubts about that.

  Hey,
  I’m having the exact same problem. And i’ve been trying to solve this for the last 4 hours.

  I don’t think you answered the question; I guess aoave was talking about installing new themes that are not even on wordpress. I too, don’t have the add new theme button.
  I installed the themes using filezilla on the /wp-content/themes folder. But nothing changed. I still have 377 themes. It’s not about activating the themes, it’s more about getting new themes.

  Been on forums all day and it seems like a recurring problem. But I have only modest knowledge about coding. So please if anyone tries to answer please just be precise.

  Hi @onionheadx,

  Your comment clarifies at least your situation, thanks for that.

  According to what you said, this isn’t the right WordPress forum to help with that problem. You (and maybe also @aoave) appear to have a self-hosted site using the WordPress.org software, but this forum is for blogs hosted here on WordPress.com.

  The two versions are different and have separate forums. Please post your question at the WordPress.org forum: https://wordpress.org/support/

  If you don’t have a username at that forum, you’ll need to register before posting.

  As for what concerns the themes at WordPress.com, it’s not possible to activate themes that are sold outside the WordPress.com store.
